Product Description

Pyrenees - the book covers the entire range - France, Spain and Andorra and there are well over 400 kilometres (250 miles) of walks in this guide, the equivalent of a coast-to-coast traverse - one of the 'classics' for all serious walkers. But you don't have to be an expert walker for any of hikes we describe. None of them requires special skills (under summer conditions) and, if you are not very fit, simply turn back when you feel like it (there are short walk suggestions with most of the itineraries). Experienced and fit walkers will nevertheless find much to enjoy, for we have included some of the wildest scenery in the Pyrenees, walked pilgrim routes and World War 2 escape routes, climbed to summits (like Canigou), enjoyed the habitat of marmots, vultures and lizards (the Pyrenean chamois), and not neglected the great and the famous (like the Breche de Roland).

Peaks of Perfection.5
I have been using the Sunflower guides for many years, and without exception they are, for me, what makes or breaks a walking holiday .Landscapes of the Pyrenees goes right across the mountain chain starting near the Atlantic coast and ending on the shores of the Med. From lowly hills to lofty peaks this guide is a "must". For the central Pyrenees Luz St Sauveur is a good base and all of the walks are achievable by the reasonably fit. The absolute must do here is the Breche de Roland, but preferably when the snow has gone! The walks in Andorra are much harder, but it is a beautiful place away from the town. Each walk has its own detailed maps, grading system and intructions how to get there by car or public transport where possible.also included are wonderful car tours. To be absolutely recommended. How do they get so much into a book that fits in your pocket!

Great for walkers5
Pyrenees: Car Tours and Walks (Landscapes) We used this simple no nonsense guide to take us on a couple of fantastic walks last October. Without the book we would not have known where to begin. Simple, good directions, and timings just right. Best of all, no superfluous detail.

Indispensable4
I wouldn't travel without it. The walks maps are good enough to do a walk without a separate map, and the general map at the back is good for getting a wider pespective of what is where. My only grouse is that we were unable to do either Car Tour 8 (Col de Tourmalet) or Walk 26 (The Grand Canyon walk) as both were still closed by snow in late May. There is a general warning about this in the introduction, but a more specific one in these chapters would have been helpful.
The update service on the internet is excellent.
