Product Description
This is a collection of nearly 250 watercolours celebrating
the beauty and wonder of the landscape and wildlife of the Hebrides. This
book will be a source of inspiration for artists and lovers of the natural
world.
From the cliffs of the Butt of Lewis to the granite outpost of Ailsa Craig,
Philip Snow has captured in his stunning watercolours the whole coastline
of the Hebrides. His studies of birds are the product of a lifetime of
observation in the field. Most of his pictures come with field notes and
anecdotes that transport the reader to the world of soaring eagles and
rasping corncrakes. No other book has presented the rich wildlife of the
islands so intimately and with such skill.

About the Author
Philip Snow is a well established wildlife & landscape painter,
book illustrator and writer, specialising in birds. After a colourful and
nomadic decade, he started painting in 1977 and has been fully professional
since 1983. Philip's paintings have contributed to, or decorated, over 60
books, & many prints, cards, magazines and bird reserve maps. He has
exhibited in various countries from the USA to the Middle East, and worked
for the RSPB, Collins Field Guides, & regularly for BBC Wildlife magazine.
Latest publications include "The Design & Origin of Birds" for DayOne
Books. His aim has long to been to depict as much as possible of the
wonderful and very varied landscapes and wildlife of the Hebridean islands.
This book is an invitation to share his own personal experiences of these
places with pencil and brush. Stunning sketches showing everything from
soaring eagles to nesting fulmars, shy corncrakes to harrying skuas,
skirling divers to scurrying waders in the beautiful wild flower "machair"
meadows.

Breathless beauty
It is impossible to look at this book without one's eye reliving what one has actually been looking at whilst on a recent trip to Harris in the Outer Hebridies - but this is a much easier way of seeing some of the things that any nature lover wants to see.... the book is a delight and should form part on anyone's collection be they nature enthusiast, lover of the Hebridies or just wanting a place to dream away some time thinking about places one wants to visit and things one wants to see. The paintings are exceptional and manage bring many touches of humour to this beautiful book.
