Manufacturer's Description
The Windows XP Professional operating system is the best choice for businesses of all sizes. Windows XP Professional integrates the strengths of Windows 2000 Professional, such as standards-based security, manageability, and reliability, with the best business features of Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition, such as plug and play, simplified user interface, and innovative support services. This combination creates the best desktop operating system for business. Whether your business deploys Windows XP Professional on a single computer or throughout a worldwide network, this operating system increases your computing power while lowering cost of ownership for desktop computers.Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers' experience with the operating system.
Customer Reviews
Stable, secure, fun!
By now everyone knows that Vista pretty much sucks on low and middle end hardware, so it goes without saying that Windows Xp is the way to go if you don't want to spend a bomb and want a pc that works! Having SP3 integrated is probably the best option, as you don't have to fluff about with hotfixes to get things such as zonealarm to run, which was a lot annoying when it came to SP2!
All in all, XP=AWESOME! Even to this day. And of course XP pro gives you all the extras you could need in the form of setting up a home network with shared files etc being ridiculously simple to get running, which is where Pro is the obvious winner. Go Pro! It's worth it, really.
Great for Installing on Macintosh
I purchased this to install on my Mac Mini - not in Apple's BootCamp but on top of Sun's free virtualisation program, VirtualBox. I now run Macintosh and Windows side-by-side (with Windows and associated applications running at native speed).
My wife requires MS Publisher for work, so this was the best way to achieve it (with the rest of MS Office Enterprise running on my Mac Mini). It works a treat, and runs much faster than on my wife's Core2Duo Toshiba laptop.
Windows ReInstall
This product was a disaster. It turned out to be SP2 not SP3 for a start. I spent the whole weekend trying to deal with the install errors, in the end I gave up, called an engineer friend of mine who had an oem copy as he builds new machines. His disk loaded and installed without a hitch.
I cannot say what the reason was for these problems but the seller was extremely helpful and quick in dealing with it. He asked me to return the product for a full refund, no hassle at all.
