£33? damn this cost me £40
This product works great! after a bit of tweaking on my part, ya see. It wasnt picking up my dsl signal, and because it says "for BT Connections" on the box i thought, shoot, ill have to get BT Broadband. (Im on Bulldog). Anyway it turns out I didnt, so if anyone else is having this same problem follow these instructions:
Plug the Zoom into your PC through an ethernet lead, then,
Open Internet expolorer and go to this address: http://10.0.0.2/
the default username and password are
user: admin
pass: zoomadsl
then go to:
advanced setup -> adsl configuration
then change the "standard", try all of the options, remembering to save changes then write to flash after each one. Also once youve changed the option and saved it, turn the modem off and on to get it looking for the signal.
This worked for me after a weekend of worry, they should really put this in the manual.
Kind regards
Kris
Good Buy
I purchased on of these today to get my laptop working at home. Instructions relatively easy and it worked straight away. I did get it cheaper than shown here though - PC World had offer on.
Zoom ADSL X6
I have had nothing but problems with this since the warranty ran out. For the first year it worked perfectly. Good solid wireless connection, and stable fast wired connection. But about a week after the warranty ran out the problems began to appear. Now I have had this router for about 4 years, 3 years of this time have been filled with it's constant disconnection from the internet. Originally I thought it was my Internet Service Provider, who were adamant it was not them. I did not believe them, as I had phoned up Zoom and they had told it was the ISP. So I changed Internet Provider to Virgin Media (not the best, I know). The problems persisted for another year, until it was about time I got a DECENT ISP. So I went for an award winning, quality provider called Zen. The problem is still here... so, it is definitely the router.
During this time I have had friends who work with computers look at it, and be baffled by its bahaviour, and I have tried everything to get it working in a stable manner - without ANY success. About 20 times a day I have to turn it off and unplug it for 10 minutes at a time just to get it reconnect again - which is not acceptable, and makes doing a degree with The Open University very very difficult.
I realise this may well just be a problem with mine, and not with a lot of others, but it has been a nightmare for years now. Unfortunatly as I am a student, I can't really afford to buy a new one at this time so I have been stuck with it, but as soon as I get some more money I will be replacing this with something else. I won't even get started on the customer support... you get the idea.
