Customer Reviews

Logic3 keyboard (or "to thumbpad or not to thumbpad")...4
I needed a thumbpad for my PS3 and so ordered this from Amazon.
Quite a big package but Amazon were VERY quick to send it to me so I'm happy there (free delivery too).
In the box is a set of AAA batteries, a couple of clips, a Logic3 RF Dongle, the thumbpad and an instruction manual. The instruction manual tells you nothing of interest apart from the fact that the red LED on the pad flashes with a lost connection or with low batteries.....everything else is pretty obvious. Now, there is an off/on switch on the right side of the device, but if you leave it alone for 10min or so, it will auto-shut-off anyway, so saving you battery usage (to reconnect, just press a button).
The back has a small slot in it that accepts the clear plastic clip for the controller. There are 2 clips....one for the official controller and one for the Logic3 version.
With batteries in, it still feels very light in the hands (I'm not sure whether I'd have liked a more weighty feel myself, but it's not too much of an issue).
When it comes to fit and finish, I think it actually looks quite good and adds to the overall weight of the DS3 quite nicely.
However, maybe my fingers are fat but I find I would like more clearance at the top for the R1 and L1 buttons (actually, the clearance is good, it's just that I'm not used to having a thumbpad there in front of them).
I am going to use it as my criteria above initially suggested ...on it's own and not attached to the DS3.

So, baring in mind that I am using it separately, what do I think?
To start off you simply plug the dongle into the PS3 (or USB hub if you have one connected). Turn on the thumbpad. Red LED goes solid and you're done.
No fiddling with settings, no installing anything....nice and clean and simple
Now even though as I mentioned above, it feels quite light, the actual quality is good imo.
I like the rubber feel of the keys and find I can type very fast with them (I'm used to thumbpads anyway as I have a Palm Treo Phone and can input text much faster with this Logic3 pad).
The only caveat to this is that in the dark, you can't see a thing of the keys. Now, of course, black rubber keys can't really be backlit, but they could've used flourescent paint rather than simple plain white/orange for the key letters.
So as long as there is enough light from your display or the room lights are on, it's a great little thumbpad in use and text entry becomes quick and painless. I find myself wanting to go online more frequently now (e.g. browser) simply because it's much less of a PITA than getting out my USB keyboard, uncoiling the USB lead, plugging in and using that.

Overall: I think that yes, it is low tech & low end, but then so is the price (£15) and for what you pay, you get a decent thumbpad that is easy to use.

7/10 (as you can't give half stars here I'll be generous and give it 4 out of 5)

Background info: If you want a thumbpad, you have basically 3 options: Official/Logic3/Madcatz.
The Official isn't really meant to be used on it's own (although it can be) because it's contoured to fit the DS3 controller so that left a choice between the Logic3 and Madcatz versions as I wanted the choice of using it separately.
I then had a read through the Logic3 reviews on Amazon and elsewhere and compared them to the reviews of the Madcatz version. You'll notice that the keyboards are the same but the RF dongles are bespoke to each company. It seems that the madcatz one is rubbish in that many people find either the connection drops or the device never connects (probably because of the madcatz dongle) whereas the Logic3 version with it's own version dongle seems to work fine.....which is why I chose the Logic3 one - never had a dropped connection since I started using it.

Can't go wrong5
This is a great product.

It is basically a mini keyboard, you can set caps lock and it has F1-F10 buttons. It also clips onto the official PS3 controller very well.

Setting it up couldn't be simpler, i just plugged in the wireless dongle, put in the batteries and switched it on. One other good thing is that it has a power save feature so the batteries last longer.

To sum up, this is an excellent product its size is perfect, i wouldn't want a huge keyboard on my lap every time i want to send a message. GET IT!

Could be worse4
Judging by the reviews and pics of this keyboard, it is pretty much the same as the Madcatz thumbpad apart from the base of the keypad is black and not white.
There are many things that are wrong with the keyboard such as its plasticky looks and the way that it does not really fit on to the controller extremely well.
However, it does do its job well and would be a welcome relief to text addicts who cannot stand the on-screen keyboard. The typing is surprisingly easy to pick up although mistakes are an often occurence if you have unusually chubby fingers like myself!
All in all, a decent effort by logic3 and at £15 you can afford to buy and use it until the next best thing comes along(Come on official playstation keyboard).
