The book unfolds in the following way:

Chapter 2 explores how psychological literacy and emotional intelligence are incorporated into Holism so as to avoid and dismantle fundamentalism and religious conflict.

Chapter 3 describes a new spirituality and meanings of ‘God’ that come from all the world’s faiths, including tribal and pagan approaches; this new spirituality integrates the sacred and the profane; it also honours those agnostics and atheists who reject any idea of deity, but celebrate the beauty of existence.

Chapter 4 explores how spirituality is, in fact, a natural part of being human and enjoying life and seems to be programmed into our biology; it discusses how this natural spirituality can be understood and deepened.

Chapter 5 explores exactly how Holism constructs a new and powerful set of ethics, drawing on traditional religion, ecology, psychology and the myths of modern culture.

Chapter 6 describes how the core spiritual skill of calm and psychologically insightful self-reflection can be used to guide our development through the complexities and challenges of the modern world.

Chapter 7 then looks at how Holism can practically ground us in our daily lives, particularly in our relationships and how we manage our money.

Chapter 8 looks at the ways in which Holism can manifest and declare its core values, drawing, for example, on the inspiration of The Universal Declaration on Human Rights and The Earth Charter. It concludes with an optimistic vision for contemporary spirituality.
