Manufacturer's Description

The all-new Air Hauler expansion for FSX and FS2004 puts you in complete control of your own freight company - take charge of operations both in the boardroom and in the cockpit.

If you enjoyed Cargo Pilot, then you're ready for Air Hauler! The limitless possibilities and flexibility of Air Hauler will let you immerse yourself totally in every operational detail of your freight company - each crucial flight which will have an effect on the reputation and reach of your expanding freight empire.

The level of complexity is up to you - simply fly jobs between bases and buy or lease aircraft, or carve out a career in the air freight industry by hiring AI pilots, trading shares on the stock market with real-world NYSE/FTSE/DAX prices, and even risking everything on loans to fill your ultimate freight hangar.

Air Hauler tracks all your financial activity, whether you're buying aircraft or air bases, fuel or repairs, or paying for landing fees or even loans and leases. Take out insurance if you think the part-time pilots you've hired might let you down when you can least afford it.

As the pilot charged with delivering the goods on time, you can decide to fly a job in multiple legs, or stop anywhere en route for refuelling or maintenance. Contend with real-world weather conditions if you want the extra challenge and keep a watchful eye on your fuel economy - the price of fuel in Air Hauler can vary with the real-world price of aviation fuel for added realism!

The busy freight pilot will appreciate Air Hauler's flight briefings in the Flight Simulator kneeboard, and you can easily create a custom parking position anywhere on an airport and choose the airport gate for your departures.

If your management skills are needed in the boardroom, then recruit other pilots to fly jobs for you and keep track of them all with the AI pilot system. Detailed Map views showing all the airports in Flight Simulator will help you keep tabs on available jobs and the locations of your bases and fleet.

Air Hauler puts you in charge every step of the way - from landings to leases, flight plans to finances, and repairs to recruitment.

Microsoft Flight Sim now has a purpose.4
Perhaps the one big problem with the Microsoft Flight Sim series, is that it has never given you a reason to get in a plane and fly it from A to B.
Air Hauler gives you this reason, at the least for MSFS IX & X.
Your aim is to build a global air cargo business, starting out with just a few thousand in the bank and an old Cessna.
You do this by opening bases at MS modeled airports and flying cargo around the world. As you gain wealth and reputation you can buy, or lease more aircraft and even hire AI pilots who will fly them for you (This element is a 'paper exercise' done within AH and not modeled in FS). However, it is done well and players will often find themselves spending time flying a desk as they do their managerial bit.

While making money is one of the main aims of the game, the more important thing is gaining reputation. Reputation is gained by the player successfully flying missions, not the AI pilots. The more reputation you have the more pilots you can hire and opens up bigger aircraft for you to fly.

There are some nice touches to AH too, such as Real World fuel monitoring, which then is used in game, a maintenance system that actually feels realistic, along with random faults occurring, which can turns a lucrative mission into a big money looser for you. The missions are not just 'fly so and so to somewhere before such a time' to win or loose, it also has a nice partial failure system, so you can gain something if you have to land at an alternative airport, as happens on occasion if you have real weather switched on.

AH does have it's faults, such as, for example, when you are doing a multi leg mission you have to close down MSFS completely between legs, you don't appear to be able to Alt+Tab back into FS as stated, at least I cannot, and I'm using a new beast of a computer built for FSX specifically. But none of it's faults are game breaking, more just niggles.

If you follow the links to the game forum you will soon see that this is a work of passion done by one person. While it may lack the slickness of something done by one of the big gaming houses it more then makes up for it by the obvious love and dedication that has been put into it. The producer is very in touch with people who are using AH and it is very much a 'work in progress' that is supported by regular patches and future 'pay for' add-ons.
At the moment AH only caters for air cargo. However, there is a passenger version in the offering. Though as yet it is unknown if this will be a stand alone second program, or a plug-in to expand on the original.

To summarize, if you want a reason to crank up either FS IX or X, then AH is a must have. It's not perfect by far, but it works well, does what it says it will do and can add hours if head scratching as you 'fly your desk' making sure that all of your pilots are doing what you want them to do

Air Hauler - Add-On for Flight Simulator X and FS2004 (PC DVD)
An absorbing and challenging FS add-on. The option menus are intuitive and fairly straightforward, although I initially experienced some minor problems with setting up the loads and fuel quantities - my fault! The relief at finally bringing home the cash, and achieving 'a greaser' night landing, was very realistic. See you on the radar!
