whitening toothbrush head
I selected these toothbrush heads because they fit my Braun Oral-B Professional Care 6000 Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush, which I have had for several years.
I normally get the deep clean heads which the bumf inside the instruction booklet recommends, but (due to a dentist's mistake - he damaged the root of the tooth) I have a tooth that is darker than the others, so I decided to give these "whitening" toothbrush heads ago.
The bristles are much softer then the ones on the heads that I normally buy, there is less cutting of the gums with the edge bristles than I have had previously.
Each of the coloured bristles are said to have their own purpose within the "whole tooth cleaning experience.
The blue bristles are for that deep between teeth cleaning. The green bristles are designed to bend when wet, meaning that you get a less abrasive clean and the white are the indicator bristles which are to let you know when to replace your brush head.
The yellow centre is the polishing cup, it is a soft cup which holds a small amount of the toothpaste and rubs this against the teeth to produce a whitening and shiny effect on the teeth. As with all Braun replacement brushes each of the individually packed brushes comes with its own washer.
Brushings with this head leave a nice clean feeling, more so than my normal brush head, however this may simply indicate that my brush head needed replacing anyway. As to whether or not using this brush head makes any whitening difference, it is too early to tell, which is why I intend to update this review in a months time.
If you are looking for a nice and gentle, but thorough, clean then these brushes will do the trick.
good but expensive
I docked one star for cost. Apart from that, I'm very pleased with them. I've had them before and found them to be longlasting. They perform well and fit several of our electric toothbrushes.
Expect improvements but not a miracle
My wife Doreen and I have been using electric toothbrushes with these whitening heads for some time now, so it was nice to receive a couple of complimentary extras with which to further our research. In Doreen's case, the bristles have not proved to be performing a 'whitening' action, however, so much as a 'yellowing' one. Fear not though, for you can rest assured that this is no cause for alarm! If you consider her eighty-a-day smoking habit, you'll begin to understand why any progress towards yellow teeth would count as a major improvement (especially as it's not cigarettes that the old dog likes to puff upon, but cigars). Yes, there's a good reason why my wife acquired the nickname "wine gums"- an explanation that is wholly unrelated to her individual preferences within old-school confectionery. Indeed, despite Doreen's best efforts, there's a limit to the effectiveness of her recontextualised adaptation of an oft-used stain prevention technique (an ongoing ritual that involves attemping to 'cancel out' each and every blemishing mouthful from the box of red with a 'balancing' glug of white).
Anyhow, if you're willing to settle for improvement rather than miracles, these brushes will do a pretty decent job. The bristles that protrude from the top are also very good at getting between the teeth for a nice deep clean. My own set of ivories has certainly become a shade whiter, although it must be said that I have yet to achieve a true Hollywood smile. While it's safe to say that they are in vastly better shape than Doreen's, the old fangs are still on the faintly yellow side (after a year or more of both using these heads in conjuction with a whitening toothpaste). Still, improvement is what matters. A little wonkiness aside, the contents of my mouth now reflect any light that should happen to be shed upon them in a most pleasing manner. However, just don't expect any offers to star in toothpaste commercials to start rolling in! Indeed, I still haven't heard back from Colgate about the close-up snaps of my mouth that were couriered across to London HQ last month (on guaranteed two-hour delivery, or your money back). I haven't ruled out the possibility that their hip-and-happening young executives are simply leaving it 'fashionably late' to get in touch, although I am starting to question whether the five-hundred spoondoolicks that I spent on having my tusks photographed in a professional modelling studio was necessarily money well spent!
