Amazon.co.uk Review
Simon Cowell's latest project – which allegedly took two years to reach fruition – sees the impresario hand-pick six of the UK's finest choral singers, put them in a studio with Il Divo producer Steve Mac and record some of the nation's most-loved Christmas songs. The six choristers in question, aged between 11 and 14, all share an undeniable talent and perform wonderful versions of these timeless songs. That they are very comfortable and confident with the chosen material is evident from the start. Whilst not wildly diverse, there's a decent range of tunes, from Sarah McClachlan's "Angel" and "Walking In The Air" through contemporary versions of hymns such as "O Holy Night" and "Pie Jesu" to less obvious interpretations of Enya's "May It Be" and Eva Cassidy's "Over The Rainbow". None of these versions will send revolutionary ripples through the Christmas album market of course; but in such masterful - if youthful - hands they become even more languorous and transcendent, making for a divinely horizontal Xmas listening experience. --Danny McKenna

Album Description
From the label that brought you Il Divo, Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand comes the truly amazing Angelis. Defying the expectations of classical music with an emotion and vocal maturity that belies their youth, the group's combined skill forms a sound that is truly traditional with a vibrant, modern streak. Following an exhaustive search that lasted 2 years, the best new choral voices in the UK have come together in a stunning formation. Featuring six remarkable young choristers with six equally striking voices, they release their self-titled debut album on Syco Music/SonyBMG, November 6th.

From the Artist
Hand-selected from around the UK by choral experts, their album lends inspiration from past and present, with interpretations of songs across a range of genres. Together, they have created their LP with one of the world's most successful producers, Steve Mac, whose acclaimed work includes 30 UK Number 1's from artists including Il Divo, Westlife, Mariah Carey and Kelly Clarkson, plus album sales of over 60 million.

Boasting 12-tracks - 11 by Steve Mac - Angelis' debut album offers dynamic harmonies with relentless energy and is delivered with aplomb. Highlights include the beautiful Sarah McClachlan song `Angel' - which is the album's lead track - plus contemporary versions of classical hymns including `O Holy Night' and `Pie Jesu', plus interpretations of Enya's `May It Be' and Eva Cassidy's `Over The Rainbow'.

Customer Reviews

Buy it for 'Angel'; the other tracks will grow on you.5
The first track (Angel) is, in my opinion, brilliant. You may not like it, so see it (the video) yourself on: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/music/features/061106-angelis-angel.html

I bought the album having heard that track, without looking to see what else was on the album. When I saw what the other tracks were, my heart sank ('Somewhere over the Rainbow', for God's sake! Who wants to listen to that? I thought that the album comprised other contemporary songs like 'Angel'). Well, now I love that track - it is a beautiful arrangement, with excellent harmonies. Likewise 'O Holy Night', and 'Morning has broken' (as I name those songs, I can see why my heart sank - they sound as if they would only appeal to those over 60 and people who go to church every week).

Incidentally, the last thing I am is religious. Or old. I just used to be a Head chorister, and have a very broad taste in music (primarily rock & pop - certainly not classical).

In short, this is in my opinion an excellent album. It is worth buying for 'Angels' alone - Simon Cowell himself said that that track makes him feel that 'everything is suddenly right in the world'... 'it completely relaxes me - I love it'. (See his interview at:

... and click on 'Simon Cowell talks about Angelis')

Incidentally, the first few people to review this album on Amazon did so before it was released. I can never understand people who do that - how can you write an honest and accurate review of something that you have not seen or heard?

If you found this review helpful, please click to say so - maybe I will then write reviews more often.

This album should be sold with a sachet of hot chocolate!5
This album is musical meditation - shut the world out for forty minutes, settle down with your favourite cuppa, and let your mind rest in it's beauty...
