Customer Reviews
It just doesn't quite cut it
Was generally quite pleased with the features of this product the swivelling length selector worked well and much more convenient than my previous Wahl machine which required changing the head for each step.
That got it 1*, the 2nd * is for the practicality of it including the carry case which was very handy.
Unfortunately though the actually cutting combs are sort of bouncy to allow for different contoured heads (or something) but I found it makes cutting worse and I wasn't ever able to get a consistent cut.
It also lacks power of a fully corded machine but I think the next model up solves that problem.
The 2 year guarantee came in good use and I've ordered a Remington equivalent now as the more powerful Philips clipper also looks like it might have a problem with the comb varying the length of cut depending on how hard you press.
Bargepoles spring to mind
I had the same problems as the other reviewers. Even if slight pressure doesn't click the grade-selector down to a shorter-cut length, the attaching combs are so flexible that they'll bend and give an uneven cut. I only used it twice after receiving it last Christmas, and I'm writing this review today because at my third attempt, the entire head (including metal cutter) flipped off revealing the inner workings. After it happened once, I re-attached it but it would flip off again at the slightest pressure.
Without any doubt, these are the most appalling hair clippers I've ever had the misfortune to own, with more design flaws than any other electrical product I think I've ever owned. It says bad things about Philip's R&D, and I'll think twice before considering any of their products (whether cheap hair clippers or a HDTV) ever again.
I have previously owned Wahl and Nicky Clark hair clippers, purchased during 1998 and 2002 respectively. Both are very solid, heavy and still working after all this time. So very interesting that the Philips rubbish barely last a year, particularly given that - as I mentioned above - I only used them three times.
Poor
I had the same problem described by Tony - the swivel length selector kept swivelling during cutting, constantly changing the length of the cut.
The clippers also struggled to cut through my hair and constantly felt like they were pulling the hairs out rather than cutting, even when it was pulgged into the mains.
