No pain - no gain
The re-chargeable 2-speed epilator arrived nicely boxed with everything necessary included - except an adaptor for its 2-pin plug. One hour later it was charged via my bathroom shaver socket outlet, and the time was spent reading up the accompanying booklet of over 100 pages - thankfully only half a dozen in English. I felt confident to proceed with assessment as though a bald head may undermine my ability to review hair straightners my hairy legs surely qualify me for an epilator. However I'm a bit of a `wimp' and I felt apprehensive about subjecting myself to "40 uniquely positioned tweezers for maximum efficiency" and to a "new pivoting head ... to aid greater removal of hairs". I was a little more relaxed about "massaging rollers" and "SoftLip tips".

The Braun 7781 comes with a variety of attachments and I suspect that according to pain thresholds these will be employed in contrasting ways by different individuals. For me I reckon the "efficiency cap" is most effective for tackling heavy hair growth as it permits maximum skin contact. To minimise hurt to oneself dealing with longer hair it is possible to first use the "shaver head" with "OptiTrim comb" and then epilate. I warn that the "underarm cap" is supposed to make it simple for these areas, but apart from a brief test I decided it must be better to shave. Though advertised there is no "precision cap" with this model, which is just as well as I didn't fancy trying moustache removal. The "shaver head" is similar to a foil shaver but perhaps there is less exactness in operation. The epilator functioned with hairs in whatever direction they lay, and with both coarse and fine hair. The variable pivot angles of the head adjust to following skin contours, and the built-in "smartlight" helps to reveal any hairs left behind, but even so considerable movement `to and fro' is needed to ensure all hairs are dealt with.

The "massaging rollers" allegedly reduce sensations of pain by stimulating the skin beforehand, and then soothing after epilation - yet it doesn't eliminate it! Speed setting 1 is referred to as "soft" but speed 2 as "optimum" - and certainly it gets things over quickest. Women must be tough to accept `stinging' of waxing, so maybe for them an epilator merely produces `pins and needles'? Though recommended for dry skin, from a pain point of view I suspect there are advantages in working on damp skin, and instead of "pre-epilation wipes" it would more appropriate to have something "post-epilation", or perhaps to rely on a warm bath first to soften skin/hair. The Braun 7781 is described as "fully washable" so this reinforces my views on wet skin - but safety instructions correctly warn not to use the epilator in the wet with the electric lead plugged in. To promote this product from `good' to `5-star excellent' it should have the wherewithal to be immersed in water - for `loosening up' in the bath! I imagine `waxers' are likely to adopt the Braun 7781 as a commercial decision, though there may be reluctance from `shavers' - but no pain, no gain.

I can add a comment in due course on charging/operation times but Braun's claims compare favourably with others. Also I can comment on length of time taken to re-grow hairs, and on how fine or otherwise is the new hair. Until then - only 4-stars.

Definitely NOT for wimps!
I was looking forward to the Braun Silk-epil Xpressive 7781 UK Body Set
Rechargeable Epilator arriving and wanted to use it immediately it was delivered. However, after reading the short easy-to-understand instruction manual, it recommends hair length should be 2-5mm.....so had to wait the 2 weeks for my hair to grow to the optimum length!

It is presented well in eye-catching packaging and the epilator itself is
ergonomically designed and user-friendly.

It has several attachments - one for legs, one for underarms and one for
face/bikini line. It also doubles up as a shaver with a trimming tool to
trim down longer hair to the optimum length for epilating.
It requires charging for one hour before first use and the battery pack
lasts for about 40 minutes.

The epilator does work well, leaves skin smooth and mostly hair free but
IS painful and my unit over-heated after about 20 minutes. The light is
bright and very useful.

On the downside, the unit is extremely noisy, left my legs with a red rash
(which faded after a few hours), took a long time to epilate as I found
I had to go over the same areas several times to get a smooth finish and was particularly painful over ankles and knees.

My boyfriend tried this on a very small area and couldn't take the pain
- compared it to having a tattoo done!!

I would recommend this to people with a high pain tolerance who don't mind
hairy legs for a couple of weeks and have the time to use this as it does
eventually leave skin hair free and smooth.
However, I am reverting back to my trusty pain-free razor!

Be Braun Be Brave to Bare
I've just used this and was pleasantly surprised with not only the results but also the epilator itself. Easy to use, easy to clean and super results.

A very important point though this item needs charging for 1 hour before use, then it remains charged for 40 mintues.

Having used one of these quite a few years ago (and another make) I was quite pleased at how nicely shaped it is for my hand, not bulky at all, the older versions were bigger, heavier and more fierce looking, similar to mens razors. Also the packaging it comes in is a modern funky girlie pink and not some standard razor like box.

One point to note is the noise of this, very noisy not one of those jobs you could do without anyone else in the upstairs of the house not hearing. That aside though it does the job it is intended for and well at that. Now if you thought that your legs would or could end up looking like the model's legs on the outside of the box of this epilator, well think again, they will not have a few more inches added onto them nor a lovely tan, but one thing for sure you will be left hair free with not a cut in sight.

The kit comes complete with wipes for your skin, (to make your skin less sensitive) now I didn't use these, silly though this sounds but I had applied some fake tan a few days ago and didn't want it to streak or go blotchy with using these (they probably don't do this but was being cautious).

Now I have sensitive skin and was more than a little cautious using this, but can honestly say no bad effects. (A little sensitivity rash but not much and that soon cleared up).

I tried it out underarms first and it was tricky to use at first, to be honest I did think 'can I really carry on with this as a rash did appear', not alarming though as the instruction booklet does point out that this can happen when you first use it due to skin sensitivity. No I braved it and no nicks in sight, nor blood. It is a bit like anything new you are a little wary, and I thought that at least if it didn't work or went horribly wrong then at least no one would see under my arms, or in the really worse case if my legs went wrong it is still cold enough to wear thick tights and hide any damage done. This little kit comes complete with a set of head pieces for underarms and legs also a trimmer and shaver, so in fact all the body is catered for with this, yet it takes up hardly any room nor weight.

Another point is when you look at the booklet on first using you have to go from page to page looking at the instructions for the numbers of various parts to then the diagram of the epliator (they really should be across the page from each other to make life easier). I know I kept looking at the instructions before using it just to make sure that I knew what I was doing, I didn't want to put the wrong head on and use it on the wrong part of my body).

Now the legs, these were much easier to do, just remember to keep the skin taught, as it really is easier to do this way. I did end up with a small amount of redness, but put some body lotion on and after about half an hour I was left with silky smooth hair free legs. A godsend for the summer months, if like myself you like using a fake tan or even have a natural tan as it will not be 'shaved off' like it would using a ladies disposable razor, as with this you do not need to shave as often. Using it now I feel as though I have the confidence to carry on using this and feel confident for wearing more swimsuits this summer.

The bikini area, well not as bad as it sounds actually, not by any stretch of the imagination as painful as waxing, and again no cuts like from disposable razors.

Well I can say with all honesty that this product is certainly worth its value for money. It does what it says and I feel like I am left with an all over silky smooth body.

It does comes with a two pin shaver plug so an adapter is needed if not using in a shaver socket.

And all with no silly wire to get in the way, so you are not restricted as to where you can use it.
