Product Description

This encyclopedia is an essential reference guide for all artists who enjoy painting landscapes in watercolour. The first part of the book is dedicated to tools and materials, working methods and colours. A basic techniques section then provides tips for mixing colour, wet in wet, flat washes, masking, sponging and much more. Further chapters in the book provide you with step-by-step, easy-to-follow demonstrations of how to paint different objects and subjects; from bridges, cliffs and clouds through to storms, sunsets and shadows. This unique reference guide will teach you how to paint over ninety different landscapes. Finally, the 'themes' chapters show a gallery of paintings in which you can see many different pictorial approaches to landscape, as well as a variety of subject matter.

Customer Reviews

An excellent book for a beginner in Landscape watercolour3
While not strictly an encyclopaedia of techniques and tools the book is useful and instructive. The book is particularly suited for the beginner as it shows those starting out how to accomplish landscape painting using a range of techniques with step-by-step instructions, accompanied by pictorial examples. The first part of the book covers tools and materials along with working methods and colours. There is also a section on basic techniques which introduces and provides tips on the use of ceramic stucco, wax resists, salt crystals, sponges, mixing colours, masking and sponging. The basic techniques (such as the section on Skies) are well written and documented.

The book also includes a section of watercolour paintings by professional artists. These are very handy as they demonstrate the techniques in action.

However, I think this book would be of less use to those with more experience than myself. In Summary, I found this book to be a great starting place for someone learning to paint landscapes in watercolour.
