Synopsis
This study of D-Day and the subsequent campaign charts the gradual evolution of the invasion plan, encompassing the intelligence efforts, the Anglo-US strategic debate over where the Allies should attack, and the elaborate deception put in place to fool the Germans about the true D-Day objective.

Lively and colourful easy interpretation4
Distinguished military historian Charles Messenger offers an alternative approach to the subject, explaining the unfolding battles via 70 full colour maps and an incisive accompanying text.

The book is well produced, and although it is in essence still largely just an atlas, bright, colourful, clear computer-created maps interspersed with interesting photographs and line drawings mean that it is far from the dry, old school geography lesson atlases of yore.

This novel cartographic interpretation, coupled with a readable and lucid text, means that the book will appeal to general readers of all ages rather than just the tweedy military historian. If you intend to buy one book for your teenager on the subject, I recommend it to be this one.
