Customer Reviews
there's better around
My first problem with this book was the layout. The pages appear quite bland and that mixed with the rather formal style of writing makes for quite an uninspiring read. The text was also quite 'Americanised' which I didn't like either. I'd reccommend going for a more modern guide (e.g. Rough Guides or Lonely Planet) or even better a location-specific book as these kind of general travelling books contain mostly either common sense or information which is repeated in such location-specific books. Also, being a general guide, depending on the places you will be going, large parts of the book may be completely irrelevant.
An eye opener
If you are planning to go travelling in the near future and dont know where to start this is definitely your book! If you think that travelling is all fun and games this is your book as well!
A real eye opener to the "real travelling".
A bible for a year out
This has to have a key and accesible place in any backpackers backpack! The book goes through in depth every aspect of what is reqired and what standards should be taken to ensure a safe aswel as memerable trip. 'The world awaits' is clearly a key and important peice of equipment, something that led to my 7 months away being largely hassel free. Any problems that I did have, the book 99% covered. A great book.
