Review
Classic Car Mart," October 2006, UK Following on from our review of a similar title on the Porsche 911SC in last month's Classic Car Mart" comes this, an all-encompassing look at the 993-series models and what's involved if you're thinking of buying, maintaining, repairing or simply researching one. This is the third book in a planned range of six covering various Porsche models in incredible detail. And although it's quite a major investment at just under $100, it's also invaluable if a 993-model Porsche is high on your shopping list of Exotica To Buy. In any case, if you can afford a secondhand 993, what's another one-hundred bucks? In case you're confused by exactly what a 993 is, it's essentially the 911 model that Porsche produced between 1993 and the 1998 model year. And that means coverage of such iconic versions produced during that time as the 993 Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet, Targa (1996-98), 993 Turbo, Turbo Cabriolet and Speedster, 993 Carrera S, Carrera 4S and Turbo S, and even the 993 GT-2 and 911 GT-1. Confused? Well, if you're well up on your modern-classic Porsches, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. This is a highly specialized book by any standards. But if a Porsche 993-series is the car you're about to buy, it's also essential reading, providing brilliantly the kind of detail and information guaranteed to ensure you don't buy a dud. You won't buy this book for its glossy image (there isn't one) or its creative layout (ditto); but within its 640 pages (yes, this is a seriously big title) you'll find the kind of information, advice and intricate detail you won't find anywhere else. It's as simple as that.

The ultimate air-cooled Porsche guide!
Wow, what an excellent buy! The book is an amazing sum of information about one of the best Carreras ever coming out of Stuttgart: the 993!
In this volume you'll find almost anything you need to buy, service, and learn about one of the most successful incarnations of the glorious 911. Everything is covered with many photos from the author and other Porsche fans who have loved and cared for this amazing car.
The only reason I give 4 out of 5 in the final verdict is because I feel it could be more complete if some of the photos were in color. I also think that some more full technical diagrams (from Porsche AG) could be present. Small things that could get corrected in a 2nd edition.
But don't get me wrong, this book is the best you can find out there about the King of Porsche! Tons of information about every aspect of the car imaginable. Certainly a good buy.
Great book for porsche fanatics
Finally, a great book for a great car, the Porsche 993. Adrian has done a teriffic job of compiling all the information you could possibly want to know about the Porsche 993, the ultimate air-cooled Porsche. I own a Porsche 993 Carrera 4S, and have really been searching for a good book on the 993. Most of the books I have seen are just your usual, glossy, coffee table books, with lots of neat photos, but no meat and substance in respect to technical information. This book has a wealth of information, very well presented, in a concise manner and accompanied by photos and diagrams. It really tells you all you need to know on this wonderful car, and am sure that it will also save you money in the long run, whether you are looking for a used 993, or are considering tuning, or want to do an oil change yourself. All about the engine, running gear, suspension, wheels, etc. This one single book is better and has more useful information than all the previous books on Porsche I ever owned! Highly recommended!
