Product Description

According to recent research 40 per cent of the workforce under the age of 35 are making serious plans to downshift, with 1.3 million people hoping to make the break before 2013. As with the thousands who are already living the dream, most will think it's the best thing they ever did. But some may miss the sophistication of city life. It's not easy to move back so you really need to think whether you are making the right decision. If you are, this book will help you prepare properly.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author
We decided to write this book in response to the interest (and many questions) expressed by guests visiting our holiday cottages in the Scottish Highlands. The book demonstrates the thought processes involved in making life-changing decisions, as well as the reality and detail of actually pursuing the dream.

Chris and Gillean intend to provide workshops and seminars examining these thought processes, using the book as the main reference source.

About the Author
Chris and Gillean Sangster downshifted themselves from London, first to Wiltshire and then to Scotland where they now run their own holiday let business. In this book they look at some of the key implications of downshifting and relocation - and consider the main criteria you can use to judge whether the time is right for you. It also reviews the pros and cons of living in different parts of the country - and provides authentic advice on how to make it all work out.

Customer Reviews

A book by real downshifters5
At last, a book by someone who has actually 'downshifted'! This book has been written by people who have done it themselves, and you can tell that on every page. This book takes you gently and methodically through the decision-making process so, if you are the eternal optimist, you will also be encouraged to look at the hard facts. And if you are an Eeyore, the snippets about how the Sangsters managed the ups and downs themselves to find the joys of a rural life and business will dispel the gloom and show you how to make it happen.
