Synopsis
Born out of necessity in the dark days of the War, the RAF Regiment found itself in the thick of the action supporting the vital operations in all theatres. This comprehensive record of their operations gives the clearest indication of the contribution that the Regiment made and includes many first hand accounts of the fighting, including the first shooting-down of a jet aircraft, the Me 262A-2a Sturmvogel in November 1944. As a result of their outstanding contributions to the success of RAF operations in WW2, the Regiment became a permanent part of the RAF.

The RAF Regiment at War 1942-46
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the setup of the RAF Regiment in WWII and what the members of it did, in all spheres of the war, from then on until the end of WWII. It is also a very good book for people tracing their family trees and who may know the squadrons in which a family member served in WWII, or places where they had been, but, until now, did not know the squadron or else where a particular squadron had been during WWII.
THE RAF REGIMENT DURING THE WAR YEARS
The late Kingsley Oliver was a senior serving RAF Regiment officer who became the de facto Regimental Historian and was responsible, single handedly, for recording virtualy all of the RAF Regiment's history until he died in 2008. His best work - Through Adversity - covered the period from the Regiment's inception in 1942, right through to its 50th anniversary in 1992. This book covered the WWII years exclusively and is recognized as being the definitive record of the RAF's 'soldiers' over the period. As in all Oliver's work, the research was carried out immaculately; not difficult for a man that was the acknowledged expert on the RAF Regiment. While more of a diary of events, it provides all the essential facts about the RAF's 'soldiers in blue' and explains how the modern RAF Regiment grew its wings. Essential reading for anyone interested in the Corps' history.
