Product Description

'Living Landscapes' builds upon the success of Andy Rouse's Concepts of Nature (ISBN 978 1 902538 52 5), using stunning artistic images combined with thought-provoking essays to illustrate the relationships between animals and the fragile environments in which they live. Using award-winning wide-angle techniques, abstracts and some very creative usage of light and motion, Andy Rouse shows why he is one of the best and most creative wildlife photographers in the world. Themed portfolios explore the concepts of wilderness, dimensions and dark light whilst galleries show Rouse's stunning project work on snow geese, the wildebeest migration and the Galapagos Islands. The essays that introduce each chapter show Rouse's passion for the natural world and seek not only to question but also to inspire. In a final chapter which takes the form of an in-depth interview, Rouse explores the sources of his vision and explains the way in which he tries to tell a story through his images. Aspects of Nature is a must-read for anyone who is passionate about nature and loves photography as the ultimate art form of self-expression. Andy Rouse's Concepts of Nature was published by Argentum in spring 2008 and he has previously published some dozen books on photography and natural history, including Penguin Life. He writes regularly for a number of photography magazines, lectures (often together with another Argentum author, Joe Cornish), and has appeared in television programmes for the BBC, ITV, Carlton, Meridian and NBC.

Living Landscapes ...A review5
Living Landscapes is the long anticipated new oeuvre from world acclaimed wildlife photographer and author Andy Rouse, and charts his growth and development as a photographer away from the predictable and towards the experimental, from animal portraiture to an increasingly creative view of the natural world.

This work comprises the expected array of fabulous photographs and is accompanied by thoughtful considered and sometimes challenging text. Anyone buying this book expecting the 'usual' is likely to be disappointed. Instead, the reader is invited to join the author on his journey away from the comfort zone and rut of conventional wildlife photography and to explore for himself new techniques, new visions and new possibilities, to be true to his creativity regardless of any negative comment or criticism that this departure may attract.

The pictures themselves are, of course, indicative and typical of the passion and intellect of the author; but they are also far more than that ; inspirational, thought provoking and courageous....A work in progress? perhaps; I imagine that for some there will be images in this book which may require repeated viewings to appreciate; there may even be some which are simply too experimental ; ... but the challenge to the reader is to adopt a different view, to explore our environment and the wildlife within it with fresh eyes , to appreciate the beauty, fragility and wildness of the natural world and hopefully also to recognise the need to protect, conserve and cherish our world for the sake of all who share it.

This is a wonderful book and is highly recomended to all lovers of animals and nature , to (aspiring) wildlife photographers and especially to those who are not afraid to face new challenges . I loved this book and i think you will too. Honest, from the heart and thought provoking, It is without doubt a work to be proud of!

Probably one of the most inspiring books about wildlife photography you'll find5
There are a lot of book out there about wildlife photography.

The latest book from Andy Rouse though is truly inspirational and confirms him as being one of the most visionary wildlife photographers in the world right now.

Not only is it filled with beautiful photographs of Andy's latest work but it also challenges stale perceptions of what makes a great wildlife image, focusing on the idea of capturing wildlife in the wider context of a 'living landscape' rather than just going for the same old frame filling shots.

There are some really interesting essays from Andy about his developing vision and a very candid interview that provide additional depth to the book and underline the book's message.

Whether you are new to photographer or an experienced pro, there's a lot of wisdom here, delivered with Andy's usual wit. It's life affirming stuff making it a hugely enjoyable, entertaining read and a must buy.

Mups review5
A fine piece of imagery as you would expect from Andy. This book contains a different slant on what looks good and could be described as experimental. Not the normal pin sharp prints that you would expect but shots showing movement, patterns within groups of animals and texture. A book that gets you thinking about how to view and capture wildlife shots on a different level.
