Product Description

The Writer's Guide to Crafting Stories for Children offers detailed information and an indepth examination of storytelling and story structure. Books on writing for children sell exceedingly well, so it's surprising that no other book focuses on this important aspect of the craft. Using examples from classic and contemporary sources, Nancy Lamb explores all the key elements of children's storytelling, from point of view to structure to plotting and pacing. Taking a hands-on approach, Lamb uses worksheets, exercises, and checklists to show writers how to capture and keep a young reader's attention, whether the topic is fact or fiction.

The Next J K Rowling5
Well...I am a budding one...Tolkien, Pullman, Colfer, Blyton take your pick..but like so many others didnt know where to start or how to turn my English Language GCSE into the next big thing. When I first ordered this book, I thought it would have a typically American viewpoint (dont ask me why) and was extremely surprised when it did everything it stated and more, plainly and elegantly.Bravo Nancy Lamb..
There are some excellent tips especially in plotting, ones I would never have thought of, a fantastic table on how to keep track of characters and some good reference points for future books. The thing I love the most is the fact that certain books well loved and new are used as reference books for all age ranges, something overlooked in many other 'writing books'.
I have purchased others and can honestly say..BUY THIS BOOK BUY IT NOW.. I havent seen it anywhere else and if you want to write for children then this book will be well worn and tattered from all the use...

Yes yes what the other one said5
Nancy Lamb. What a woman. I was stuck stuck stuck with so much of my work until I found this little gem. I even wrote to thank her myself. My writing has gone from strength to strength and I use Nancy's book as something of a reference book and a satellite. This book is also brimming with really inspiring quotes for when your self confidence is low. No book can teach you to be a great writer but this one will certainly help prevent you from being a bad one.

excellent book5
This is an excellent, well thought out book. Nancy Lamb writes beautifully and her extremely helpful tips can help a writer make the transition from mediocre to extraordinary and from unpublished (and unpublishable) to published. The guide is packed full of examples from across children's literature. Really worth the investment - essentially a writing for children course. It's about how to write well, not tips on getting published. It explores how to create memorable characters and the ins and outs of storywriting and plotting, with lots of potential trouble areas to watch out for. Thanks Nancy Lamb.
