Synopsis
Gina Claye's poems explore the emotions experienced by those who grieve. Bereavement can leave people feeling isolated. It takes courage to grieve and is an intensely person process. Sharing feelings through poetry brings some comfort knowing they are not alone with their painful and overwhelming emotions. Gina Claye is a retired teacher, living in the Chiltern hills. She has helped counsel parents who have lost a child, and advised hospital staff on the needs of those grieving, drawing on her personal experiences. She has appeared on television and radio. Her poems for children have been published in anthologies by Scholastic and Oxford University Press. This is a large print edition of these poems.

i wrote a review for the large print version (which i bought by accident) so i'll post a comment here too for this normal print one. i just wanted to say that i found this book very helpful when my friend lost her partner and i just didn't understand what she was going through or what to do to help her. the poems are about the everyday of living with grief. i think they probably ask the questions that have to be asked when someone dies and your world falls apart. some of them are funny, some are very very painful. they have autobiographical paragraphs that go with each poem and explain what was happening when it was written. it really touches you. the writer lost two of her children in separate tragedies. you can see why she's got something to say about loss and how to live with it. i'd recommend this book to anyone who's lost someone - or who knows someone that's been bereaved and they don't know what to do that might help.

A very helpful and worthwhile book.5
I bought this on the advice of my Mum who was given it after my brother died 4 years ago. The poems are beautifully written and touch on many emotions that I have felt and situations that I have found myself in. There is also humour and I found myself smiling in recognition at a couple of them especially the one about the car driving to Tesco's. This would be useful to anyone trying to understand grief and grieving, either their own or a loved ones. It is not specific to the loss of a child but to grief in general and the feelings it evokes. A very helpful and worthwhile book.

please note this is the LARGE PRINT version - i bought it by mistake. i don't regret it as it meant i could keep this copy for myself and order the normal print one for my friend. her partner died and i didn't know what i could do that would help her. this book seemed to comfort her maybe because it got down on paper some of the difficult stuff going through her head that was hard to express. it also helped me understand what was happening to her and get some idea of what she was going through. the poems are just about the everyday of living with grief. i think they probably ask the questions that have to be asked when someone dies and your world falls apart. some are funny, some are very very painful. when you read the autobiographical paragraphs that go with each poem and explain the story behind it you understand why - the writer lost two of her children in separate tragedies. it's a heartbreaking book but it helps you too. i'd recommend it to anyone who's lost someone or who knows someone that's been bereaved and they don't know what to do that might help.
