About the Author
Carolyn Abram: One of the first Facebook users on the west coast, Carolyn took her English degree from Stanford University (Class of 2006), and decided the best career move was to get paid to be on Facebook all day long. On the Product Team since 2006, Carolyn has managed voice, language, and tone for Facebook, while contributing as an author and manager of the Facebook Company Blog. Originally from Ardsley, New York, Carolyn currently resides in Palo Alto. She boasts the highest ratio of mess to desk at the office. Her hobbies include hiking, writing, enjoying sunshine, mocking her friends, and Ultimate Frisbee.

Leah Pearlman graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Brown University, where she first signed up for Facebook to find out the name of a boy in a class. Typical. She spent two years at Microsoft learning the product management ropes (seriously, there are ropes) before becoming a Product Manager for Facebook. Since joining, she has worked on a wide range of projects including messaging and the Inbox, News Feed, Pages, and Ads. At the office, Leah’s desk is always clean, except sometimes when it’s not, and instead of a chair, she sits on an inflatable ball — she has only fallen twice while people were watching. Her hobbies include snowboarding (though she feels pretentious every time she says it), writing (see previous parenthetical comment), and also playing Ultimate Frisbee.

Brillliant.5
I would recommend this book to all new face book users. It is so easy to follow.

FACEBOOK FOR DUMMIES4
I bought this because I am of a certain age and did not fully understand how FaceBook works. I operated on the worrying assumption that everything I put on it would be visible to the world at large. In the past I've never been keen to purchase any Dummies title but this was the exception and I'm glad I made the decision as the book has been of no end of help to me.

Painful read. Just tell us the facts!2
I bought this to get quickly up to speed with facebook for a works project.

Its awful. Its so full of waffle that you can barely find the facts that are hidden amongst all the guff. It spends far too much time telling me why I should be using facebook. I already know that. Anybody who actually bought this book would already know that. So why have whole chapters devoted to that topic?

I just want to get up to speed on the ins and outs with minimum fuss.

And stop telling us about things the book will deal with in later chapters! I don't mind that in the introduction, or chapter 1 even. But when you get to chapter 5, you expect to be getting the facts, not more "we cover this in chapter 8".

True, this book has taught me about Facebook, more quickly than had I just waded into it on my own, but it was a very painful route, and unnecessarily painful as well. So publishers, just cut out all the waffle and the book will be much better. If you are worried about the size of the book, include a chapter or two on app development, or have some nice pictures of kittens. Anything. Just. Cut. Out. The. Waffle.
