A visual feast!5
If I was restricted to choosing just one reference book relating to the flora and fauna of Britain, this one would easily win hands down. I find the multitude of beautiful photographs and illustrations provide not just a magnificent visual treat in themselves, but absolutely brilliant in aiding identification of the variety of life forms to be found in and around our countryside. The text is clear, concise and extremely interesting and enhances this fascinating presentation.

That one can find such a treasure discounted is greatly added bonus.

RSPB and DK are to be very highly commended for this masterpiece!

wildlife of britain5
This excellent book is undoubtedly what wildlife enthuasiasts have been waiting for as it covers the whole field so seperate guides are unnecessary.Following a tour of Britain the 6types of habitat are described in detail.Thhe main part of the book deals with the various species namely mammels, birds, reptiles and amphibians, fish, invertebrates, plants and fungi. Each section starts with a piece on anatomy and identification followed by apicture of each specamin with a short description and distribution map.The one fault ofthe book is that many ofv the best pictures cover two pages destroying the integrity o the subject.Highly recommended and a great buy at £20

RSPB Wildlife of Britain4
`RSPB Wildlife of Britain' is another excellent DK reference book, this time sponsored by the RSPB. It follows a similar format to the other books in this series and has a wide selection of topics and beautiful photography and illustrations. This covers Habitats in Britain before looking at Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Amphibians, Fish, Invertebrates, Plants and Fungi in greater depth. Each species has it's own entry in this book with a focus on specific features and information relating to it. The illustrations help you in recognising the various elements as you walk around the countryside and make an afternoon walk all the more enjoyable. This is quite a large, coffee table book format and is extremely comprehensive. If you have a love of nature and want to learn more about the diversity of life in Britain, then this book is simply outstanding. It is one, like me, you will be dipping into for years to come.
