About the Author
Per Wahloo was born in Goteborg, the son of Waldemar and Karin (Svensson) Wahloo. After graduating from the University of Lund in 1946, he worked as a journalist, covering criminal and social issues for a number of newspapers and magazines. In the 1950s Wahloo was engaged in radical political causes, activities that resulted in his deportation from Franco's Spain in 1957. After returning to Sweden, he wrote a number of television and radio plays, and was managing editor of several magazines, before becoming a full-time writer. Maj Sjowall is a poet. She lives in Sweden.

worthwhile
A worthwhile read. This is the last of the 10 books in the series I have read. In context I thought it fine, although i seem to think the early books were better.

These authors are worth following up.

Another great Martin Beck book
I'm a big fan of Wahloo and Sojwall.
There's something special about the way they write.
The characters are well defined and all have interesting personalities.
There are about 10 Martin Beck books and I wish they had written more.

One of the weaker Becks
This one doesn't quite come off as well as the other Martin Beck novels - Beck is fairly subsidiary to the plot, which is carried mainly by a new character, DA 'Bulldozer' Olsson, to whom the reader doesn't really warm.

Apart from bedding a witness, Beck only comes to life in the second half.

And the story isn't really satisfactory either, somewhat contrived and tailing off to a weaker conclusion, with a man imprisoned for a crime he didn't committ, plus two criminals and a female amateur bank robber getting away scott-free, the female with murder.
