Editorial Reviews

Y Cymro, April 4, 2008 (R Elwyn Thomas, reviewer)
This [novel] supplants the Anglo-Welsh greats Alexander Cordell and Richard Llewellyn...I enjoyed it greatly.

From the Back Cover
This delightful novel, set in North Wales in 1943, gives an insight into an almost forgotten way of life.

Mari, a single mother, Werner, a German prisoner and Martin, an English fighter pilot, come together in a drama of love and conflict that is witnessed by the local and evacuee children. They too are caught up in the unfolding story until the war intervenes with a series of shocking deaths. Can the fragile village culture weather these blows to its traditional ways?

About the Author
Katie Thear was born in Llŷn, North Wales. She is well-known as the author of practical, non-fiction books. This is her first novel.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant - you can almost smell the Welsh air...5
Katie Thear, who was born in a Welsh village and grew up on a Welsh smallholding, has captured the essence of life there during the war. Although it's a love story it's not a romance novel, much more than that. It transports you through time to a magical place that now exists only in memory. When I finished it, I wanted more. I hope she writes another novel soon.

Taken to a different world and time5
I loved this book. The story drew me in and I had to keep reading until the last page in one go. It's a haunting story of a country community coming to terms with the growing influence of WW2.
There are parts that make you laugh and other parts that bring a tear to the eye. The characters are so real you feel as if you are sharing their life but for too brief a time.
I really enjoyed every page - strongly recommended.
