Customer Reviews
Very perceptive
This is an excellent book which gives a very clear insight into the rationalisations that sustain addiction. Once you've read this book you'll be able to identify and challenge addictive thinking in yourself and in other people. A really useful tool in combating addiction.
Well worth reading
A excellent description of what goes on inside the addict's head and how it is the thinking (not the drinking or using) that is the crux of the addict's problem once the addictive substance has been removed from the equation.
The rationalisation and blaming behaviour of addicts and those around them is described well through examples from the author's personal experience in the field.
Anyone in recovery or close to someone who is (or should be) would benefit from reading this book.
A guide to understanding how the addict thinks
Finally, in plain English, this book explains how the addict thinks and why he treats himself and others the way he does. It doesn't solve the problem, but it does offer comfort in knowing that you are not to blame. I only wish the book went one step farther in offering some advice as to how to deal sanely with addictive behavior, how to react and perhaps what to expect when you do react. Overall, well worth reading.
