Product Description

This lavish, illustrated journal describes Beatrix Potter's life as a young woman in Victorian Britain as she struggles to achieve independence and to find artistic success and romantic love. Using witty, observant commentary taken from Beatrix’s own diaries, the journal moves London to Scotland to the Lake District, and features a wealth of watercolour paintings, sketches, photographs, letters, paper-engineered items and period memorabilia to recreate a world where nature and imagination are brilliantly combined.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author
Beatrix Potter (1866-1943). Her passion for the natural world lay behind the creation of her famous little books. A particular source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist.

Customer Reviews

beautiful and collectable5
This is a real escape into Beatrix's world, written in her style of conversation and beautiful facsimile style reproductions of ephemera and letters bringing her creations to life. Best of all is the facsimile of the private first edition of Peter Rabbit at the back, a rare publication to have I think. Adults love it as well as children.

TOP KIDDIES AUTHOR REVEALS HER PERSONAL SIDE5
The name Beatrix Potter is as synonymous today as it was one hundred years ago but what of the Beatrix Potter the woman, what of her life in her early womanhood, it is all here in this brilliant journal of the best part of her life from 1881 to 1896, her grandmamma's vivid recollections of her childhood, her dislike of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone her vivid descriptions of the landscapes in Scotland and the lake District, all written in a code of which only she knew about, it is a truly wonderfully unique book, no other journal goes full-on in describing the political and social scene in this era as this one and I salute the late Leslie linder and Glen Cavaliero for making this document available to the general public, if there were an option to rate higher than five stars I would rate it 10 stars

Beatrix Potter Journal5
This Journal if full of information on the life of Beatrix Potter. It is every girls dream of a journal. It is a must have. I bought one for a friend and when I received it and saw how beautiful it was, I had to purchase one for myself.
