Average customer review:Product Description
The foundation to drawing a character is the penciled under-drawing. An under-drawing that has somehow gone astray, once penned, ultimately results in artwork that just will not pull together or lacks balance. This volume explains in thorough detail how to handle the pencil, before the pen ever touches the drawing. Using actual examples of how a well or poorly penciled under-drawing can affect the final work, this book passes along many helpful pointers. Use this book to learn the absolute basics of penciled artwork, manga-style!

Beyond brilliant.
I came across this book a few days ago now, and before I begin, I'd like to stress how utterly hopeless I was at drawing manga before now. I've read it for years and always longed to draw something that looks even vaguely like actual manga, like it's supposed to. I never had.
However, this book is nothing short of miraculous. The instructions are so clear and so easy. There are a lot of examples of how to draw right, but even more usefully, there are examples of what happens when you do it wrong. If your drawing turns out to be not what you expected, it's so easy to pinpoint where you've gone wrong. With this book, you'll learn from your mistakes and get better as an artist, rather than slump at the same level of "not quite right-ness".
This book has done more for me in a few days than several years of struggling with other books. I'm now looking for other books in the series.
If you're serious about manga, if you're frustrated and not sure why things aren't turning out like they should, you need this book. Please, please consider buying it because it's helped me enormously.
Best Basic Manga Tutorial Book
I have been drawing manga for about a year now, however I was never satisifed with my results using instructions from other manga tuition books. I found the "More How To Draw Manga" series and thought I would give it a go. Volume 1 is nothing short of amazing. It covers the basics fantastically, it shows you easy ways to draw all aspects of manga characters, the head tutorials are in particular excellent. All aspects of basic body drawing are included and you will need no other book to help you grasp the basics.
The instructions are clear and concise, covering the fundamental ideas of manga to drawing Chibi (super deformed characters).
I would highly advise anyone who is thinking of beginning to draw manga to purchase this book at once, it has everything you need to cover the basics of manga character drawing, and if you have already begun but are having problems or would like to grasp the basics again, this book is perfect!
