Dub - Ambientish -Techno
Warm dubby organic beats bubble around 'BIOSPHERE' soundscape ambient, mixing well crafted but not overused glitch-techno. Recommended to dub-techno fans and minimal groove music associated with the likes: Basic Channel, Pole, Geoff White, Octex, Plasikman(Consumed album)...etc. Released on Move D/B-Ton; both of Deep Space Network & Conjoint and owners of Germany Source-records label who previously released other quality albums by Deep Space Network, Move D, Yoni, Ymc, Regeanz, Bton...Check!
Excellent slice of atmospheric dub-tech
Many other reviews from independant websites gave Veer's 'Lideskape' CD a luke warm response, citing that, although it was good, it treaded on ground covered by artists such as Pole.
Initially I thought this was no bad thing, considering that Stefan Betke is a master of the organic dubtech genre, and I turned out to be right. From the get-go, the listener is rewarded with a full hour of consistent, blissed out tech-dub. The sound oozing out of the speakers is masterfully crafted, sounding very warm and organic. Lideskape presents a progressive soundscape of deep aqua-dub which is augmented with various fitting sound effects which are treated with delay, reverb and other dub-associated effects and sequenced in techno-ised prog-patterns. As with all albums built upon a rich sonic texture, a high-quality soundsystem is needed to get the best effect. Such a system reveals that this is a well produced tech dub which features a wide soundstage.
As far as melody goes, it is present but it is not necessarily exposed to the listener immediately. Many listens are needed to fully comprehend the in's and out's of an album such as this, and this is were many other reviewers come unstuck as there reviews are based on a couple of spins. Veer's 'lidescape' is a constantly mutating album and sounds different in different contexts and at different volumes (like with all good dub-tech). One one occassion, one or two tracks stand out, on other occassions, another two or three tracks standout. Usually though, all the tracks merge and the whole album stands out. This is one of those albums that will impede your social life as it should always be played as a whole. On the other hand, Lideskape can exist perfectly as a backdrop to other activities as it allows the listener to drift in and out.
For fans of: Pole, Basic Channel, Senking, Deepchord, Dubjack, Fluxion, Drome, Maurizio, Robert Hood, Geoff White, Loscil, Kandis and Scion.
