Roald Dahl is one of the most famous and well-loved children's authors of all time. His works of genius, also known as modern classics, include Esio Trot, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Danny the Champion of the World and many others. `The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and six more' is a collection of seven short stories. All of them are good but one is exceptional: The Boy Who Talked To Animals. It is about an animal loving boy who went on holiday. His name was David. He had a special ability of talking to animals and understanding them. Brilliant - helps children understand money isn't everything
I was read this book when I was about ten by my school teacher at the time. I am now a student working with young children and I fully recommend this book to all. Henry Sugar is a book about a gambler who learns a way to 'bend the game' to his advantage. It's a story of realisation, helping children understand that having money or material possessions isn't always that great and that there are downsides to all of it. It certainly had a big impact on me, and that was nine years ago! Roald Dahl is a genious.
