This is a beautiful hard back book with water colour pictures, a brief history and some folk tales of each of the Scottish islands visited by the author. He retraces the journey of Martin Martin who first made the journey in 1703 when he wrote the book "A Description of the western islands of Scotland" Makes a perfect gift, or treat yourself.

A Good Read5
I first got the book from the library & enjoyed it so much I decided to buy it. The book is not the sort where one reads it from cover to cover like a story, but rather a sort of reference book where one reads certain paragraphs over again.

I to am a boat owner, and dream of visiting the same places as the author. The island descriptions are of just the right length, and the amount of history mentioned is just enough to be interesting without being boring. The sketches are excellent and each view seems to be from the angle a boat owner would like. Even the cover of the book is of water resisting material making it compatable with boat life.

As a bonus the book was sent to me quicker then expected and it was even a pound or two cheaper than the flycover price !!

All in all a first class purchase which I would recommend to any like minded person.

A must for Island Hopping 5
This book is compiled from a series of articles that appeared in the Herald. It has been crafted into an imaginary cruise around 53 Scottish Islands. Each Island has 2 pages dedicated to it and it covers facts about the island including its history with the occasional local myth or personal anecdote. It is easy to read and you can't but help want to retrace the steps of this imaginary voyage. As with all Haswell-Smith Books - this is a book which is illustrated with delightful watercolours. This book would be equally appreciated by walker or sailors.
