Manufacturer's Description
The Procter Pest-Stop 14 Inch Wire Rat Cage is manufactured to a traditional design for the humane trapping of rats or similar sized pests. This trap is widely used by pest control professionals, farmers and gamekeepers etc.
At one end there is a spring-loaded entrance door that is held open by a setting wire to allow the rat to enter. Once the rat takes the bait, the door is shut by a strong spring and secured closed by a drop down bar. At the other end there is a second one-way entrance that allows more rats to enter but not escape. As rats have a strong tendency to group together, it is common for two or more rats to be caught in the same trap.
The cage is manufactured to a high standard from galvanised welded wire to resist rust, making it suitable for use in out-buildings and barns etc. The cage has a wire carrying handle on the top of it making it safe to carry without risking contact with the captured rats.
The Cage Rat Trap should be placed close to regular rat runs. Leaving it unset for a while will help naturally suspicious rats get accustomed to its presence. The trap should be baited with bacon, other meat or fish, and should be checked on a regular basis to avoid causing distress to captive rats.
The trap comes in a cardboard box, printed with instructions for use, fully assembled and ready for immediate setting.

Great item and non lethal too.
Cannot stand the idiots who think we need to kill anything and everything in our gardens just because they are too ignorant to understand them. The biggest vermin the world has is ourselves!
Just moved to a property in the sticks, and within days saw a rat as big as a cat (lol)..and a few little ones scampering around the garden. Desperately sought some way to get rid of them and bought this humane trap, with the idea of relocating them when caught. Well it turns out the rodents are just doing the rounds, and pop by every few weeks to see what's going free. So, no need to get rid of them any way. Just make sure we leave nothing out to encourage them to stay a while, and they happily move on. That should include your bird feeders, as rodents DO climb trees to get at the food! so your need some form of protection to stop them getting at your bird feed. We use CDs and hang off flimsy line so they just cant get a good hold, quite funny to watch.
Live and let live is our motto....billions wasted every year killing wildlife, and most of it is completely uneccesary. Enjoy it while you can.
We might ask ourselves why would the pest control industry, who make billions out of killing wildlife, are constantly putting out scare stories about being overun with pests? Not rocket science is it!
Great product and well built. If we ever do have a real, and not perceived, problem, we know we have a plan B.
May 09 update:
Plan B just came in to effect, I think we have one persistant SAS trained Brown Rat...he has found and managed to defeat every fat ball location... he climbs brick house walls to 8 feet! (brown rats are supposed to be poor climbers!!) So I decided to test the trap yesterday... by midday had caught a Blackbird (yet another reason to not use lethal or poison traps) Let it go and he scarpered with a few choice words aimed at me! By 3am had caught ratty....screamed like a baby when i picked trap up..went for me like any visious dog anytime my hand got close.....took him up the road and let him go (about a mile). Nice to see the trap working exactly as it's supposed to, and without killing. Now feel guilty for moving him on for just being there :( Simple answer is dont leave food out that they can get I guess... Birds are conspicious by their abscence any way around here!
I have now put my feeders on a rotary style washing line, and the smooth pipe seems to stop anything climbing up too far...
Fingers crossed.
Vermin Control
I purchased this wire rat cage for £12.20 after spending £32.98 on an ELECTRONIC PEST REPELLER UNIQUE PEST CONTROL - THE WORLDS MOST ADVANCED ELECTRONIC PEST CONTROL PATENT PROTECTED it sounded as if the rats were playing musical chairs so I bought the wire rat cage and after two nights, bingo I caught my first rat although the Electronic system was running at the same time. Need I say anymore? the £12.20 was money well spent.
the cage
i have had one of these cages for years it has always performed well.my last rat was caught today and despatched via .22 meteor.i would advise wiring the little flapper door closed as have had rats escape from here and have never had more than one in at a time.pre bait the area and see if this is taken overnight, then you can set trap, may take 1/5 days for results, they are very weiry of strange new things be patient and wait you will catch rats nearly every time.
