Bradt's fully illustrated wildlife guides focus on regions of the world particularly celebrated for their amazing and often unique species. With spectacular photography or exclusive watercolour drawings throughout, each visitors' guide provides an introduction to the region's principal flora and fauna alongside suggested wildlife itineraries, practical information on when to go and what to take, and photography tips. Written in a deliberately engaging way, they offer something different from dry field guides, and will appeal to the interested layman as much as the wildlife devotee. Ideal as a lightweight companion to any wildlife trip they also make a handsome souvenir.
The Galapagos islands are famed for their unique and diverse wildlife, as illustrated here with full colour photographs on every page. In spite of their isolated location, their allure is such that they are a mecca for wildlife enthusiasts on what has often been called the 'trip of a lifetime'. "Galapagos Wildlife" is written by experienced tour guides, who share essential tips on how to discover the best the islands can offer and fascinating background on key species.
Whether planning a voyage of discovery in the footsteps of Darwin or simply as a great souvenir of a trip, this guide will be invaluable for visitors to this magical kingdom.
* Over 120 colour photographs of species * Habitats, conservation and ecology of the islands * Visitor sites detailed individually, with full-colour trail plans * Species covered by category, including reptiles, marine animals and birdlife

From the Publisher
Galapagos
I first went to the Galapagos Islands in 1974, journeying there by ship which ran aground when the captain was otherwise engaged. I returned as a tour leader, having the immense good fortune to visit this archipelago a total of nine times. Since then I've wanted to publish the guidebook which I wish I'd been able to give my passengers: something to aid in identifying the wildlife as well as being a reminder of one of the world's most wonderful holiday experiences. David Horwell and Pete Oxford have allowed me to fulfill this ambition with their combination of superb photography and informative text (both are naturalist guides in the Galapagos).
From the Author
This book is the fruit of many journeys to the Galapagos archipelago. The islands' wildlife is described in a highly readable style based on our close observations. The photographs were chosen to bring the islands to life. Despite being a small pocketbook, the visitor sites descriptions are more detailed than any other guidebook. We guarantee this will enhance your visit to the Galapagos and for armchair travellers it will bring the ‘Enchanted Isles’ into your home.
Customer Reviews
Great book - the envy of all other passengers on our boat
Took this book with us on our recent trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos. Really useful, packed with loads of background natural history info & great pictures, and helped us get far more out of our trip than we would have otherwise. Detailed information about all the landing sites. The book came home very battered as every passenger on the boat used it daily!
Travel Size Galapagos
This relatively small book on the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands is packed with information and pictures. The author has gone to a great deal of trouble to condense a vast amount of data into a handbook for the traveller, without sacrificing essential information, clarity or accuracy. Not only does it cover the wildlife that the visitor is most likely to encounter, it also gives a succinct history of the islands. Working in the Galapagos Travel Industry, and having considered many similar books for pre-trip briefing and ready reference while in the islands, this is the book I would recommend.
Not as good as the Collins one
I bought this to accompany me on a Galapagos cruise, my mother-in-law bought the Collins Galapagos Wildlife guide. On the cruise although mine was perfectly ok, we both without fail turned to hers in preference. I think that says it all.
