great value for money but not the toughest drive out there4
Contrary to a previous review, I can't help but feel the casing on this hard drive feels very fragile. This isn't a bad thing for me as it'll make me treat it with extra care!

The actual drive works perfectly with both my macbook pro and xp pc. I didn't bother reformatting, and haven't yet had issues with large files. Noise levels are pretty quiet.

There's no on/off switch which is confusing (USB connection is the on/off).

Overall, I'm very happy with this drive, but it's definitely not a travelling drive, and I'm tempted to get another backup drive incase I drop this (750gb is an awful lot of data to lose, and they're so cheap now).

File size limit on Western Digital My Book 2 Essential 750GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive2
Hi - I bought one of these a few weeks ago and I have just started using it to back up all of my video files. (I am copying them from my trusty old Toshiba external hard drive which is rapidly running out of space).

Some of my largest .AVI files would not copy because of disk space limitations. I checked on the Western Digital website and discovered that I have to convert from FAT32 to NTFS and set up some sort of partition Now they tell me!

So I will have to reformat the thing and then copy all of the files again.
So beware if you want to copy files greater than 4GB - this drive isn't plug and play!

Quietest External Drive I've Ever Had5
I have been through a number of external drives, but never tried out the Western Digital drives. I was pleasantly surprised to find that as well as having no setup requirements at all the drive is very compact, well ventilated but makes literally no vibrations at all. More often than not, external drives make a contant humming noise, but this one makes the occasional click as it accesses data and that's it!! It feels rugged like it will last a long time; the build quality is top notch. If I needed another, I would buy this one again!!
