Down-to-earth, sensible introducion to a fascinating subject
My interest in hypnotherapy as a way of helping others and myself is just starting, and as a basic guide and introduction to what can seem like a very confusing topic, this book hits just the right note. There is sufficient information to inform, and there are enough practical exercises to make putting the new information to work possible. The author avoids falling into the trap of making unrealistic claims for hypnotherapy - indeed, he is at pains to point out its limitations, and the fact that it is in no way an 'easy' option where the 'patient' can just sit back and be transformed! He also clarifies the fact that hypnosis, in itself, is not therapeutic, but merely a channel through which therapy can take place. In essence, it seems, hypnosis allows a faster and more direct access to the unconscious so that any out-of-date or unhelpful images/thoughts can be 'up-dated', rather like out-of-date computer sofware! There is a 'further reading' section which might be helpful though I am suspicious of any 'further reading' section which mainly recommends authors from the same publisher! Overall, a good introduction to the subject - if you already have some idea about what hypnotherapy is, then you probably need something a little more 'in depth'.
A wonderful book that deals with phobias and fears
This book has so much practical information about phobias and anxiety. The author uses case histories to demonstrate the effective use of hypnosis. It's so well written that it is easy to understand and doesn't confuse the reader. I found that it helped me understand my fears and understand what hypnosis is all about. It encouraged me to try it out and I can now get on a plane! I truly recommend it as it's the best way to deal with a phobia. It's made such a difference to my life.
