Amazon.co.uk Review
In giving 1991's The Last Boy Scout a three-star review, critic Roger Ebert was properly performing his duty as an objective reporter, praising the filmmakers' professional skill while observing that "the only consistent theme of the film is its hatred of women". For the purposes of this capsule review, there's no such obligation to level-headed fairness; the simple truth is, this ultraviolent, action-packed vehicle for Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans is disgustingly rotten to the core. Not only is it fuelled by a bitter and spiteful attitude toward women, it's also the kind of profanely vulgar movie that doesn't hesitate to put foul-mouthed children in the path of vicious thugs and potentially deadly situations. Willis plays an ex-secret service agent turned private detective who is hired to protect a stripper (Halle Berry) and then teams up with the stripper's boyfriend (Wayans), a disgraced NFL star who was kicked out of football for gambling. They catch on to a criminal plot leading all the way up to a corrupt football team owner who wants to legalise gambling on pro football. Willis and Wayans get in and out of all sorts of trouble along the way, and naturally there are plenty of explosions to go along with the brutal beatings, gunfire and constant cussing. Shane Black (of Lethal Weapon infamy) set a Hollywood record (since broken, several times) for the sale price of his slick but vile screenplay and Top Gun director Tony Scott handles the action with his trademark gloss and high-impact style. But, seriously, is this a movie that anyone could bear to watch twice? --Jeff Shannon

Synopsis
Bruce Willis stars as Joe Hallenbeck, a disillusioned former Secret Service agent who has hit rock bottom as a detective for hire. His marriage is on the rocks, his adolescent daughter has a smart mouth, he drinks too much, and he's broke. Hallenbeck takes an assignment protecting Cory (Halle Berry), the stripper girlfriend of Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans), a former professional football player banned from the league for gambling. When Cory is murdered gangland style, Hallenbeck teams up with the former football hero to find the killers. Their search leads them deep into the world of professional football, politics, legalized gambling and sadistic hitmen. LETHAL WEAPON screenwriter Shane Black wrote the script for this violent, action-packed thriller directed by Tony Scott (TOP GUN, TRUE ROMANCE). Willis plays Hallenbeck with a sadistic glint in his eye and a deathwish. Wayans is convincing as Dix, an athlete who loses everything when he's banned from the game he loves and turns to drugs for consolation.

always fun
Last boy scout is a film that i went wild for as a youth and now that i am older i still find the blend of over the top violence combined with humour to be a winning combination and the storyline isnt bad at all either.
Bruce willis plays a former secret service agent who is now a private detective, damon wayans plays a former pro ball player who loses his girlfriend to murder and wants to know why, both men combine to get the answers and unravel a world where corruption, greed and gambling and murder go hand in hand.
Although willis plays his role up to the world here and steals as many scenes as he can, wayans plays his part as well and the chemistry between them is good, they wise crack their way through situations where they should be pleading for their lives so that may be stupid but it works,a snappy script always helps and it exists here for sure, the action is over the top and blood flows like a 300 year old wine, and this film isnt as expensive as that would cost so jump on board and embrace a silly, violent over the top little gem.
Fans of Pulp Fiction will love this

It's got that same irresistible blend of over the top violence and awesome humour. I swear to God, the scene where Bruce Willis shoots a gun through a cat puppet is one of the funniest things i've ever seen. Obviously this film is gonna appeal mostly to guys but don't take that as a rule, i'm sure most people would be able to find something in it they liked.
Other highlights:
1. Someone dies by falling into a helicopter's blades and you actually see it.
2. The never-ending banter between the characters of Joe and Jimmy - they've got some great one liners.
3. Look out for Halle Berry, she's not in it for long but it's a good appearance.
Overall, this is the definition of the 'All-Out-American-Action-Movie'. But it's intelligent as well with a great script, great acting and a plot that works the tension just right. Total fun and most definitely recommended.
Well, it's not PC, but .....
Ok, so this film isn't politically correct, but "disgusting to the core" (amazon.co.uk review) is going way over the top! It has an 18 certificate, so you should expect some foul language and, given that it's a Bruce Willis film, quite a lot of violence. In fact, given the circumstances, I thought the adultery situation was dealt with very gently.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was well paced, had a reasonable plot, lots of explosions and a good dollop of wit!
If you can't cope with violence and swearing you most certainly shouldn't watch this, but if you have no such objections you certainly should!
