Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life may be an improvement on its 2001 predecessor, but its appeal is mostly aimed at fans of the video games that inspired both movies. That pretty much leaves you with some fun but familiar action sequences, and the ever-alluring sight of Angelina Jolie (reprising her title role) as she swims, swings, kicks, shoots, flies, jet-skis, motorcycles, and free-falls her way toward saving the world, this time by making sure that a grimacing villain (Ciaran Hinds) doesn't open Pandora's Box (yes, the actual mythological object) and unleash a deadly plague that will "weed out" the global population. Exotic locations add to Jolie's own coolly erotic appeal, but we're left wondering if this franchise has anywhere else to go. --Jeff Shannon

Synopsis
Popular video game character Lara Croft returns to the big screen in this sequel to LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER. Intrepid British archaeologist Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) has made perhaps the most important archaeological discovery in history: an orb that leads to the mythical Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, the orb falls into the hands of Jonathan Reiss (Ciaran Hinds), an evil scientist who deals in killer viruses and hopes to sell the secrets of the box as the ultimate weapon. Recruited by British Intelligence to get the orb back from Reiss, Lara enlists Terry Sheridan (Gerard Butler), a British marine turned mercenary--and her former love interest--to help. The two embark on an adventure that spans continents in an attempt to regain the orb. Lara is a walking advertisement for "girl power." She's brilliant, athletic, courageous, and saucy. She flips jet skis, parachutes to safety from tall buildings, dives, rides horses--nothing seems beyond her. Best of all, Lara is one of the good ones--she'll do whatever she must to keep the world safe. Directed by Jan de Bont, this film was shot on location in Greece, Kenya, Hong Kong, England, and Wales.

I thought it was great, everything you want in a action movie
I know theres more to movies than a pretty face but that said Angelina in this is just so incredibly gorgeous you end up glued to the screen. Everything she does she looks amazing. The film has quite a few stunning action scenes and very classy done. Watching a tough gorgeous woman do amazing stunts and kick some butt can never be a bad thing. I'd definatly watch again so in my book deserves its 5 star. Just what I seek in a good action film. The motorbike scene is great.

Culture is dumbing down.

The age of Controlled Culture is dead. Anyone with a web connection has a voice. These days we can see that what people really think is as important as what we are told to. Traditional means of communication, the newspapers, the TV, is now seen, accurately, with distrust, as the voice of others.

No longer does the opinion of Paul Ross, who frequently describes movies as "an excellent summer blockbuster" count for anything. Instead reviews state things like "Hopefully, Jan De Bont's failed and miserable career will be officially dead after this."

After a string of awful summer movies, the MTV-lite pornography of Charlie's Angels 2 and Tomb Raider 2, I'm astounded that anyone has any difficulty getting a movie made. I could pitch to someone a movie called "Kramer Vs Kramer Vs Godzilla" and get £100 million to make it, if a piece of vaccous, unexciting plotless trash like Tomb Raider 2 get made. Just give me an edit every 36 frames, CGI in some dust and a motorbike, and aim at a market of schoolgirls who are allergic to talking and we're laughing. I can walk out, serve dinner, come back, and some computer imitation of a famous person is still running down alleys being chasing by a helicopter and goons who forgot how to aim guns.

If only they could CGI some plot or excitement into the film instead of sharks and heavily subsided images of Budweiser beer tankers, Pepsi bottles, and BMW's. Life would be so easy.

I've got a pitch : Sonic Boom. A superhero movie about a guy who can manipulate sound as a weapon. Bitten by a radioactive loudspeaker, on the run from a government agency who want to dissect him, a lone hero, a man against the world, trying to live a life undetected, and by night, a vigilante, in love with his best friends girl, and trying to eliminate his arch-enemy, a scientist schoolfriend who is planning to enslave the world in involuntary servitude as he manipulate a new mind-drug called .... Television.

Dammit! Where's my $1,000 billion?

Complete drivel
The whole film reaks of over confidence, a prime example of when a sequal is really bad. To start with, Lara has become irritating. She is the token Hollywood heroine, who has to walk into a room looking cool, even if it is a life threatening situation. Even when she is chilling out she is hitting bullseyes with a rifle when she is riding a horse upside down. She is hostile towards the MI6 agents for no reason other than it makes her look cool and indpendant from men. She is also hostile to Terry in the way that Hollywood heroines are, cool and in command.

Another point is that this film is ignorant of anything to do with Britian. The whole thing id based on stereotypes. Angelina Jolie's accent for a start does not come from anyware inparticular. The MI6 agents are pompus and useless, shown as people who probably salute the flaf and have a picture of the Queen at home.
And this next point proves that the makers of this film know nothing about Britian. The MI6 agents, learning of the threat to the world, give Lara the permission of Her Majesty the Queen. As if the Queen makes decisions like that. As if we British need the Queens permission for anything. Anyone who watches James Bond films (and a lot of people do) will notice that the Queen does never play a part in granting permission for James to go on a mission.

The villain in this film is nothing more than a jumped up Blofeld whose plan makes no sense. What does he plan to achieve with the whole world dead? Any money he would he would be worthless if no one is alive to trade with. And the disease would most likely kill him as well as everyone else.

I watched about half of the film before I gave up. I usually watch all of a film even if I hate it but I had to be up realy the next morning and I thought of no reason to push myself harder than I had to for a film that was not going to get any better. Although I now know of a final twist to the film, it still has not changed my opinion that this is an awful film.
