The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure-and-simple slasher-movie formula: introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. Synopsis
A quiet summer drive through rural Texas ends in violent tragedy when several youths encounter a chainsaw-wielding psychopathic killer and his demented family. Tobe Hooper's gruesome tale of terror is loosely based on the Ed Gein killings, which actually occurred in Plainsfield, Wisconsin. Shot in a neo-documentary style, this incredibly influential horror film spawned numerous sequels and imitations.

Suspense at it's best, but not the gore fest of the beginning
After watching the beginning for the first time earlier today I then watched this film, this film does not have the electric start of the beginning, this concentrates on building the characters first and foremost.

This film has plenty of tension and after the warm up period which does go on for a while you're taken on a wonderfully tense, exciting film with a little added gore shots for good measure, this is nowhere near as gory as the beginning, this disappointed me a little, but the suspense more than makes up for it.

Good solid believable performances from the entire cast, the future of horror/slash em up/suspense films have a new level to set themselves and that bar has been set very high indeed.

Disc 2 has a documentary about the killer Ed Gein these films are based partially on the killings that he committed, also an alternate opening and closing sequence are available to view, plus deleted scenes.

Highly recommended, great film, very well executed (as are the victims!!).

I really liked this remake but
and this question may have already been asked, why did she run into the slaughter house, when she was on the main road and could have just ran alongside it, ducking into the bushes if the police car came along. Also she hid so many times, when she should have been running that she should have ended up dead, but then we wouldn't have had such a good film, or should I say such a bloody film

I am reviewing the 70s legendary "video nasty" not the remake as Amazon seem to have messed up the synopsis. I went to see this film about 7/8 years ago at the pictures. When it was re-released with all the other video nasties. This is definetly the best of all of those films it is just completly relntless although in my opinion not overly violent on the eye. The scariest part of this film is what you don't see and the tremendous sense of panic and peril in almost every scene. Even at the end you just know that something else could and probably will happen. In my snippet review I compared the film to se7en which I stick by just look at the interiors of the house.

The plot a group of teenagers pick up a hiker who proceeds to jokingly self harm and when he is chicked out of the van he marks it with his own blood. This marking attracts the attention of the service station that they stop at. This family station serve home made treats which several of the teenagers have a part in! Can the last remaining terrified teenager escape?
