Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Bram Stoker's original literary Van Helsing dispatched his nemeses of the night with just a crucifix, a few simple wooden stakes, and a dash of garlic. But this CGI-driven, 21st-century Hollywood take on the vampire hunter is bigger, bolder and, judging from veteran Alan Silvestri's thunderous goth-on-steroids orchestral score, definitely more bombastic. Courtesy of director/big-budget monster revivalist Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King), Hugh Jackman's title character now faces off against Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, a giant werewolf, and Mr Hyde.

With an appropriate lack of subtlety, Silvestri seasons the action-set pieces with some gloomy, Herrmann-esque brass, jolting doses of massed percussion, the occasional shrieking choral homage to Carmina Burana--and (for some ears) precious too little of Franz Waxman's haunting, neo-Romantic horror-film lyricism. But then, overwrought popcorn epics call for overwrought popcorn scores, and the bold, epic scale of Silvestri's music can't be denied; it has as much alternately jolting/nervous energy as a double-dose of caffeine. Enhanced CD features include an interactive game trailer, gameplaying clues, a photo gallery and preview of a comic book merchandising tie-in. --Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com

A good and entertaining soundtrack...4
I'm a big fan of Stephen Sommers's movies, and Alan Silvestri's music, and if you've listened to his score from 'The Mummy Returns', you'll notice that this score has taken some inspiration from it, and perhaps even some from the 'Gladiator' and 'The Lord of the Rings' sountracks! Indeed, in the final track 'Reunited', the main melodic motif is very similiar to one in his soundtrack for 'The Mummy Returns'.

Having said that, this soundtrack is very good, and fits in very well with the style of the film. It has great instrumentation (particularly the use of percussion!), melodic lines and harmonic structure that are characteristic of a great soundtrack, and while listening to it, particularly the 'battle scene' tracks, it really does make you feel like you're back in the cinema watching the film for the first time! It also comes with some extra features including the van helsing game trailer, hints for the game, a preview of the van helsing comic book, and a photo gallery. It also comes with a mini poster, and I highly recommend it for any film music fan!

Brilliant5
Great film and great soundtrack to go with it!

Van Helsing Soundtrack5
After seeing the film 4 times since it's initial release all I can say is the soundtrack is brilliant as is ths film. I love this CD as wheneva i play every track, i instantly get a mental picture of that exact moment it played within the film.

NE1 who's seen this film will hav 2 get this 2 really appreciate the film. I expescially love the last track 'Reunion' as like the film its the best moving moment which is captured beautifully!

There is also a recurring part which appears in most of the tracks which has become Van Helsings theme! Wheneva u hear it u instinctively know its him!

The extras on the disc which u access via ur PC r gr8!
