Amazon.co.uk Review
In some ways, HBO's Six Feet Under plays kid brother to the Sopranos: it's spunkier, less refined, chancier and a bit of a punk. Nevertheless, the show, set in the southern California mortuary Fisher and Sons, deserves its place in the pantheon of great television series. The initial series was a showcase for the most original characters, including tight-lipped brother David (Michael C Hall) coming out of the closet, emotionally trippy mom Ruth (Frances Conroy) and the most complex girlfriend on the face of the planet, Brenda (Rachel Griffiths). Slowly, the major force in series two 2 is the unassuming lead, Peter Krause. Part of the long line of good-looking actors who never get respect because they make it look too easy, Krause finds the perfect blend of optimism and wonderful, bittersweet anguish as Nate, the prodigal son.

The opening series' happy ending is forgotten as relationships change, the business is still under fire from the evil conglomerate Kroehner, and a lively dream sequence is just around the corner. As with the first series, creator Alan Ball lets many others direct and write the show, but his stamp is all over it. The eccentricities of the characters are shaped, and not always suddenly. Take daughter Claire (Lauren Ambrose), who sheds her bad boyfriend only to find more complex relationships on her road to discovering her own groove. One person in the mix is Ruth's beatnik sister (Patricia Clarkson, in an Emmy-winning role). She's a joyous embodiment of thriving--if ageing--counter-culture. Another new character is Nate's old girlfriend, the granola-loving Lisa (Lili Taylor). With Brenda heading down another destructive course, Nate is at more than one crossroads by series' end. For fans who groove with the wild, serio-comedic world of the Fishers (and let's face it, many didn't), the second series goes down like a fine meal of fusion cuisine. --Doug Thomas

DVD Description
One of the most critically acclaimed shows on television, Six Feet Under returns for a second season with the award-winning mix of cutting edge drama and deliciously dark humour that made the first season so popular. Continuing its look at the Fishers - the dysfunctional family who own and operate Fisher & Sons funeral home in Los Angeles, Six Feet Under digs where others fear to tread. The second season continues with more enthralling storylines as Nate finds out about a mysterious growth on his brain, Ruth, the family matriarch tries harder than ever to develop close relationships with her children, David has come out of the closet and moved in with the emotionally troubled Keith and Claire, the artistically gifted teenage daughter seeks some stability in her life in the form of a new man. The Fishers' lives are intertwined with friends and loved ones, both living and deceased: Lisa, Nate's old friend from Seattle, who is the mother of his infant daughter, Federico, the young mortician and family man who has risen from employee of Fisher & Sons to partner, Sarah, Ruth's younger and seemingly free-spirited sister, Nate's one-time fiancée, Brenda, whose relationships with her own family might be more dysfunctional than any of the Fishers' and Nathaniel Snr., the deceased patriarch, who reappears in flashbacks and daydream-like visitations, serving both as a comfort and a conscience to those he left behind.

dark as sin4
The second series of six feet under continues the story of the fisher funeral home with it being at the core of the lives that live there and visit there, all roads lead to there basically, this series drops some of the surreal scenes that we all loved in season one and stays within the mindset of a reality that is dark, bleak and somewhat tortured.
Six feet under does not have any real twists or edge of the seat tactic, although this season ends with a cliffhanger, this series is slow, and deliberately so,patience is required as the lives of those involved is scraped to the bone,we learn alot more about the key characters here and then some.
The dark humour exists still but is less evident than on the first series for certain, this is a show that demands respect and gets it from myself,it will never appeal to all, never, but this series is on par with the first for various reasons, enjoy.

Simply brilliant5
Six Feet Under is possibly one of the greatest shows ever created. Provocative, fresh, darkly comic and dramatic, this is TV heaven, and Season 2 does not disappoint. However, this season has a darker feel to it than season 1, and much of the black humour seems to have been replaced by darker, more serious storylines. But this is TV drama at its best and there are some genuinely touching and moving moments where you really feel empathy for the characters, and some episodes can only be described as gorgeous, and will take your breath away and really make you think, not only about the show but about life in general. How many TV shows can do that? The major storylines involve Nate's discovery of a tumour, David and Keith's relationship difficulties, Claire trying to discover who she is and her place in the world, and Brenda's downward spiral into sexual addiction. The acting is superb and is one of the best things about the show, as it makes the show feel very real and believable. Every episode is excellent, and the interaction between all of the characters and their relationships with one another make for compelling viewing, and the last few episodes are truly emotional. If you are a person who is easily offended, I would not recommend SFU, but if you love great television, and are a fan of SFU, I strongly recommend Season 2.

Better than the first season4
This is the second of five seasons of Six Feet Under, a series about the Fisher family and their funeral home business. In this season we have the continuation of the storyline regarding Nate and his AVM (a disease of the brain) and how dealing with the day to day running of the funeral home and the constant interaction with dead people makes him have to face his own mortality and the fact that he may die from the condition. We also have Brenda (Nate's girlfriend), basically losing it and becoming a promiscuous sex addict behind Nate's back.
Ruth, the mother of the family embarks on a distrastrous relationship with her Russian florist boss Nikolei which results in her losing $87,000 as she pays off his loan shark only for him to be completely ungrateful.
Dave ends up getting back together with his ex Keith only for Keith to treat him like something he's just stepped in everytime he has a problem and also Claire who has to deal with her constant attraction to bad boys.
This season as I have stated is a lot better than the first season. For a start, we don't have to deal with the constant popping up of Nathaniel Fisher (the father who died in an accident at the start of the first season). For some reason, the Fisher family have regular conversations with this man but nobody discusses it as being weird. He did tend to turn up a lot and it got a bit annoying as he gave his family advice but it doesn't happen so much in the second season. Also, the storylines are much more involved and this makes caring for the characters much easier.
This season runs over 5 discs and extras include featurettes and several commentaries.
