Ligeia.4
The film centres around the story of a young noble woman- Rowena and the strife surrounding her new husband. a mysterious and reclusive man who has some serious skeletons in his closet/bed.
i did enjoy the film, Vincent Price was excellent as the sunglassed Verden Fell and Elizabeth Shepherd was also good as the fragile Rowena. It had good tension and the setting, a beatifully derelict abbey, was very good.
the problem was towards the end of the film, it all got a bit muddled and random, we didnt learn enough about Ligeia to make her into the witchy figure i think she was meant to be. At the beginning of the film in a scene with some bystander saying how this woman was desecrating holy ground and Verden proceeded to intimidate him, by the end of the film we still hadent learnt if this Ligeia was some devilish woman when she was alive, or a witch of some kind. there is a lot about a cat, which turns out predictably to be Ligeia and is Rowena's bane. there are some good horror moments in Rowena's dream and the finale but the "scary" little signs like a dead fox on the bed, a brush full of hair and a saucer of milk are just way too lame.

so marks for suspence, acting, setting but minus points for the lack of actual horror build up.
a very enjoyable film but doesnt really cut the mark as a horror movie, not enough solid horror or originality.
