Customer Reviews
Does what it says on the Book Front.
This book is a great starter - it gets you going by taking you through a series of logical steps using FrontPage 2003 using colour screenshots of the steps required.
There are basic instructions, Hints' and 'Hot Tips' - all marked with icons.
This makes a quick review for a missing step easy to follow.
What I didn't realise from the official review is that there is a website for all these series of books, with resources.
FrontPage 2003 has its own downloadable zip file of the basic graphics and text files so you can follow the instructions EXACTLY as in the book.
If the book says add xyz.graphic - it's there!
If it says import sports.txt - it's there.
Saves you typing tedious text or finding similar graphics and lets you get on with the tutorial.
Your finished website will look and behave exactly like the example in the book. This is a great idea and lets you practice different ways of handling data to get the same result and know you have done it correctly in the end.
The 2nd half takes through adding belles and whistles to the completed web site. The last section of part two covers extra advice on website publishing to help understand using FrontPage features to promote your completed web site, e.g. Meta tags
It has a decent section on Frontage extensions too. As I have always used a very different web editor, this was exactly what I needed to convert me to FrontPage.
I shall use this publishers series of books for any other software I need to get up to working speed on quickly.
Oh how long did I take to write a basic website?
Two sessions of 3 hours (I was taking my time)
I have three professional medical websites. My other software
took me two weeks to learn how to use it to the same extent - because it was so intricate and the manual was awful!
Easy Peasy - recommended to the Max
Front Page News - it's 5*
I recently purchased this book on Amazon and I am so pleased. The author gets to the point...teaching you to use Frontpage. Gone is the long-windedness of US titles where "why-use-a-word-when-a-chapter-will-do?", or the author's "I'm so clever" prevails!
Download example files from the website of the publisher and follow the straightforward instructions and you have a web site!
This book leads you through the process of getting your thoughts into web pages, with ease. It's a very readable book and has the practical information you need to build a site and then go on to build a better site.
Sure, one or two little things I might re-edit, but I breezed through the instructions in less than a day, with success - and now I am repeating the process before doing it for real.
Once you have followed the process described to you, your creativity will be fuelled and you'll have a clearer understanding how you can make your site a reality and something to be proud of.
