About the Author
Originally from London, Lizzie Williams has worked and lived in Africa for 12 years, starting as an expedition leader on trips across the continent on overland trucks, including the Istanbul to Cape Town run. She is now something of an expert on border crossings and African beer and has sat with a gorilla, slept amongst elephants, swam with a hippo, and fed a giraffe. Lizzie has travelled independently to over 20 African countries and could feasibly have driven many hundreds of thousands of kilometres through Africa. She has spent lengthy periods working in Zimbabwe running an overland stop and tour company specialising in Mozambique and in South Africa as a manager of a backpacker's lodge equipped to receive overland trucks. She is the co-author of Footprint South Africa, author of Footprint Kenya, and has updated both Footprint Namibia and the Rough Guide to Turkey. She is also the author of the first country-specific book to Nigeria, the Bradt Guide to Nigeria.!
She has written overlandafrica.com, a leading website on the overland industry in Africa, contributed Africa destination guides to US websites, including iexplore and Yahoo, and written Africa Overland, a souvenir coffee-table book on the Kenya to Cape overland route. Lizzie writes full time and, when not on the road, lives in Cape Town.
