Synopsis
Titles in this series are much like Barron's Pet Owner's Manuals, but the Handbooks have more pages, more illustrations, and more fully detailed pet care instruction. They inform pet owners and prospective pet buyers on purchase, health care, feeding, housing, and many other details that every pet owner should know. All photos are in vivid full colour. Many title also feature anatomically accurate and highly instructive line art. Ferrets are lovable animals, but they're also very active and inquisitive, and require training and supervision if they are to be kept in the home. Here is detailed information on keeping a healthy, happy, and compatible ferret.
Customer Reviews
A ferret bible!
As one of the many ferret owners in the UK, I know we still haven't caught up with the US, where ferrets are nipping at the heels of cats and dogs in popularity. So, when any books about ferrets (whether US or UK based) appear on the market, they are immediately very much welcomed!
This book, published in 2001, gives a refreshingly straightforward approach, with modern day, non-patronising writing - thankfully avoiding a common problem among pet guides that write as though all pet owners are six years old. It contains not just 'aww' cutesy photos, but also health-related pictures, showing examples of common ailments. It raises thought-provoking questions (regarding finance, time, space etc) that make you question yourself and your options, whether thinking of buying a ferret, getting another one, moving them indoors/ outdoors or breeding.
It is a comprehensive book, covering not just the basics but also other topics including how to deal with deaf ferrets, common problems and cures plus suggested games for your ferret. I was most impressed by its warning regarding amplifiers and ferrets - in a house with half a dozen electric guitars, we had quickly realised that our ferret was very attracted to the hidey-hole that an amp provides! Alerting you to specific areas like this makes the book a fairly chunky, but not daunting, ferret bible. Ideal for anyone that's had even the slightest inkling about getting one of these "furballs" to those who have housed these cuties for years - an excellent reference full of ideas and facts.
Excellent All Round Information
From the very basics to training, long term care and health probolems this book covers well the subject of keeping ferrets. It is an easy read and has excellent contents and index pages. Although written in america nearly all of the information is valid in the UK. An ideal book for any ferret keeper (I personally keep two as pets)and considering the price it is excellent value.
