Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Nine Below Zero have built a solid reputation since their early TV performances on ‘The Young Ones’, ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’ and ‘The South Bank Show’ in the late seventies. Headline gigs at the HMV Apollo (Hammersmith Odeon) and major tours with the likes of Eric Clapton, The Who, The Kinks, Sting and Brian May have served to place Nine Below Zero into the hearts and souls of many rock and blues fans.

The new album recorded at Glenn Tilbrook’s London studio features twelve brand new songs (self penned) and shows the versatile nature of the band and their influences. "Hit The Spot" would not be out of place on a Rolling Stones album, "Hit The Ground Running" sees Dennis Greaves’ guitar working overtime a la Pete Townshend, "The Story of Nathan John" is a country tinged tale of a young man leaving his family to go to war.

The band's rhythm section is provided by the powerhouse (Gerry McAvoy/Brendan O’Neill) that once drove the legendary Rory Gallagher both on tour and in the studio. Mark Feltham’s Harmonica has graced the work of Oasis, Dido, Texas, Talk Talk, Robbie Williams, Tom Jones and many others. Dennis Greaves’ (Lead Guitar) enthusiasm for this band has never waned and he continues to drive this band forward in a fashion which belies their thirty plus years in the music business.

I declare an interest as someone who goes to see Nine Below Zero whenever I can. Described by the BBC as stalwarts of the British R n' B scene they are quite simply, in my view, the best live band around. Formed in 1979 they just seem to get better as the years roll by.
This is by far the Band's cleverest CD yet. All original songs written by the band.
The description of the Story of Nathan John as a song about a son going to war is way off the mark-it is clearly about the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes in 2005 by the Met Police under the impression he was a terrorist. It is a great song and worth the money for the cd alone.
I find this cd has grown on me. I prefer to hear the tracks live but that's just how I like to hear music.
There are no weaknesses in this band. Four totally different individuals- it would be difficult to go out and find four more different characters - welded together by a pride in what they do, great enthusiasm, and a ridiculous amount of talent.
My tip would be to buy the cd then go to the Band's website and find a gig to go to.
