Robson Green and Simone Lahbib return as dysfunctional psychologist Dr. Tony Hill and ambitious D. I. Alex Fielding, for four more gripping episodes of ITV s dark, thrilling series Wire in the Blood. Still as chaotically unorganised as ever in his cluttered personal life, Dr. Tony Hill s insight into the fractured mind is still crucial to Alex as they race against time in their hunt for the killers and rapists stalking the streets of Bradfield. In The Colour of Amber, time is now of the essence after an 11 year-old girl is abducted from the Bridgefield Estate in broad daylight. Statistics say that the first three hours are the most important, so the clock is ticking. Will a nationwide Amber Alert work in time? In case number two, the team delve into the dark arts of witchcraft to solve a series of sinister and brutal killings, including those of children. But are they really ritualistic? How powerful is Nocebo, and the power of suggestion? Can Alex mend her strained relationship with her young son, or is it now too late? In The Names of Angels, beautiful and successful young women are being raped and murdered, their bodies left discarded on industrial sites all over Bradfield. But what is the connection to a series of murders carried out in Europe five years ago, and can Tony and Alex find the identity of this faceless killer in time to rescue the latest young victim? A terrified girl is chained up in a ransacked room in Anything You Can Do, as 2 killers seem to be in competition with each other, the stakes rising after every slaying. And the return of an old mentor leads to trouble for Tony and Alex. Can their relationship survive the recriminations? This DVD Box Set also contains exclusive interviews with the show s stars, Robson Green, Simone Lahbib, Emma Handy and Mark Letheren among others, as well as delving into the mind of award-winning author Val McDermid, and exploring the background of her complicated creation Dr. Tony Hill. Where does she get her ideas from, and what is the truth behind these increasingly disturbing cases?

Customer Reviews
Series 5 and still going strong
This two disk set contains all four episodes of the fifth series of Wire In The Blood. The episodes in this series are The Colour Of Amber, Nocebo, The Name Of Angels and Anything You Can Do. Robson Green returns as Dr Tony Hill a psychologist and Simone Lahbib is back as D. I. Alex Fielding for her second series. Green and Lahbib have an excellent on screen chemistry which has developed from series four.
The episodes are up to the usual high standard which we have come to expect and do contain some scenes of graphic violence. There are also interviews with cast and crew which are quite interesting. In fact my only gripe is that there are no chapter stops on the episodes which means you have to fast forward to a particular scene - this was an annoying overlook in the series four dvd and should have been rectified. However, this is only a minor gripe and should not put you off buying this excellent dvd.
dissapointed: no subtexts
As a foregner, but quite fluent in English, this box-set was a disapointment. The actors mumbles a great part of the time, combined with a for me, unknown dialect. this makes it difficult to understand the who's and wy's in the plots. Amazon should make a comment on those DVDs where there are no subtext at all!!!!! I am so disapointed, while when this series was on TV in my country, there were subtexts and therefor no problem following the plots.
State of the Art Television
This is not a review for season five only but also for all four previous seasons as well as season six currently being shown on television.
The show tells the story of a crime detective unit based in a fictional city in northern England. Together with the help of a brilliant but dysfunctional clinical psychologist (played to perfection by Robson Green), they try to solve the most grisly and disturbing murder cases.
Each episode lasts 90 minutes so this gives more room for character and story development. It's also more brutal, intense and violent than most television shows so not for the squeamish.
This is state of the art finely crafted crime drama featuring strong scripts and three dimensional characters you really care for. The acting by all involved is truly superb and the writing is top notch. It's riveting, captivating, engrossing, gripping and powerful stuff with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing right until the last minute. This will have you glued on your sofa and make you shiver. Turn off the lights, sit comfortably and enjoy!
