The best book to dig deeper into MBTI
Having read many books on MBTI, this book was the first to demystify many aspects of the types - to move beyond mere description to prediction and prescription. And, although the book is complex and rich, it is understandable and not arcane. It gave me more information than I thought possible about the struggles I have had all of my life as an ENTP - a female ENTP, at that. What an eye opener.
A Must Have for any Jungian Type Enthusiast
Having read several Myers-Briggs related books, I'd have to say that this one was by far the most deep and insightful look into type. While the others give a good surface understanding of Myers-Briggs, this one delves deeper and explores the more subtle and intricate points of each type without losing track of the general overview. This book views type primarily from a Jungian perspective and eight of the chapters explore the eight Jungian types into detail using analogies, real life examples, and humorous cartoons to illustrate, making the more complicated aspects of type theory more accessible to the average type enthusiast. There is even a type test at the beginning which may give you a good indication of what Jungian type you are likely to be. This book is a must have for any type enthusiast but since it explores the deeper aspects of type, those who already understand the basics of type and want a more advanced understanding will probably get the most out of it.
the best one out there
Having already read tons of books on MB-Jungian type, I really doubted that I would derive any incremental benefit from reading this one. I was wrong.
I can say without reservation that this book is the best of its kind. Thomson simply fleshes out MB-Jungian concepts in greater detail and with greater insight than other such books. She also makes particularly effective use of references to pop culture and literature to demonstrate her ideas.
For anyone interested in truly understanding MB-Jungian type, I would recommend first reading some introductory book to get the basics. I would then follow up with this book to really flesh things out.
