Excellent perfomances at a really low price5
I've owned sets of these concertos for 30 years, and this one for about 10. They are a constant and unfailing delight, and Simon Preston's performance is very very good.

Like the other reviewer here I also have greatly enjoyed this set. Some of the movements are reworks of other pieces by Handel such as movements from the Op. 6 concerti grossi - or perhaps these came first, I don't know - and some movements seem not to be Handel at his best. But a fair amount of the music is new to me and very worthwhile. The performances strike me as excellent - I have always had a soft spot for the beautifuly blended sound of the English Concert and for Pinnock's musical, lively and enjoyable approach to music. Nothing is ugly or exaggerated but everything seems to sparkle.

At this price this is a good bargain. But if you are new to Handel's instrumental music go for the Op. 6 Concerti Grossi. Or, if you are relatively new to Handel altogether then explore the music that is at the heart of his output and upon which his towering reputation rests: the operas and dramatic oratorios.

Musical perfection both in composition and performance. I cannot believe that this has ever been bettered. I recommend it most highly.
