About Us
Zacchaeus 2000 Trust's mission is to fight the causes of poverty and to help households in extreme poverty in the UK to access the justice system when they face claims by statutory authorities and court proceedings by: •acting as McKenzie Friends, who are court-recognised non-legal supporters of litigants in person, for poor and vulnerable people facing the authorities’ or courts’ proceedings for debt or fines; •training and supporting volunteers to act as McKenzie Friends to support vulnerable and impoverished debtors •campaigning to raise awareness about UK poverty by setting up and pursuing test cases through the courts and by lobbying Parliament to change the law on issues identified from our work with vulnerable and impoverished debtors where the law, the legal process or the benefits system operate oppressively or unfairly.
