Customer Reviews

Very dissapointing1
What a shame this book is. It could really have been so much better. The last summer of the iconic Concorde the worlds first and possibly only supersonic airliner.

The few pictures of Concorde are not really that impressive. The many pictures of people staring into the sky, well, there are far too many.

Surely the fact there are all these people looking up into the sky, tells us that it is in fact Concorde that we want to see.

A nice piece from chief pilot Captain Mike Bannister, does not I am sorry to say redeem this book in my opinion.

A big dissapointment, not the detailed story of Concordes last summer in commercial operation with BA that I thought it would be.

How refreshing...5
How refreshing to see a book that makes you think rather than just the stereotypical "airliners" type photos. This is an art bok, and I can see that if you are a plane spotter, then you would be disappointed, as this is, as advertised, an art photography book. If you are interested in photos of aircraft and flightdecks in a totally unevocative and sterile way, head down to the Queen's Building, at Heathrow, and grab your camera and "noccies" The photographs in this book encompass the entire genre surrounding Concorde, including the people and the passion. Very interesting and beautiful photographs.

Milking The Concorde Cash Cow1
There are 101 pictures within this book.
48 of these are pictures of people with cameras or binoculars in there faces.
46 of these are of Concorde

It is not 'Visually striking' the pictures of the plane are often poorly placed on the pages or show the plane at such distance that only the iconic shape let you know it is Concorde. 'Full of wit' there is a little present in the foreword by AA Gill otherwise none. 'Emotional resonance', well maybe, the only text after the foreword are snippet comments from spotters.

Jeremy Clarkson (well known budy of AA Gill) is quoted on the back of the book with `A brilliant memorial to a great departed machine'
If it had comments from pilots, ground crew, passengers, spotters and others involved with the plane. If it had pictures prominently of the plane and taken from more locations than just heathrow, then this may have been a good memorial

But all this is, is Marlow and Gill trying to make a fast buck out of the plane.

If it wasn't for major distractions at home this book would have been returned in the 30 days for a refund.
