Product Description

For nearly half a century Alvis was famed worldwide for the design and manufacture of its thoroughbred cars, including pioneering work on front-wheel drive and independent suspension. The Coventry precision-engineering firm always knew that diversification was essential for survival and went on to make aero engines and armoured fighting vehicles. As Alvis ceased to exist as a separate entity when it became part of BAe Systems in 2004, this fourth edition - which includes important new material - is the definitive history of the marque.

Customer Reviews

A first class marque history4
Having previously read the first edition, this fourth edition is a major re-write and much improved in the quality and choice of pictures. The author has gleaned fascinating insights from interviews with and published papers of key individuals. There are minor quibbles with some of the appended details of the cars (pps 329 & 340) and a couple of photo captions (p335)have been accidentally swapped. The only editorial howler spotted is the inclusion of two identical photos of the Alvis Stormer - one heavily re-touched(pps239 & 247).
Overall this is an excellent marque history of interest to a wide range of enthusiasts - cars, aircraft and military vehicles.
